About The Position

Reporting to the Facilities Operations Manager, the Custodial and Floor Care Supervisor is responsible for managing the daily work performance of the OHS custodial staff, and ensuring the highest possible standard of cleanliness and safety. In addition to supervising the work of custodial staff, this position will be responsible for leading continuous quality improvement efforts, inspecting OHS facilities to ensure service, cleanliness, and safety standards are met, training and mentoring facilities employees, scheduling and staffing for maximum efficiency. This role is hands-on and works alongside the custodial team to complete nightly tasks. The effective management of custodial employees will be paramount to the success of this position. Leadership, problem-solving, and decisiveness are critical competencies for this role. All OHS staff members contribute to the stewardship of the organization’s mission and are expected to stay current on and understand issues related to animal welfare and OHS programs. The proposed schedule for this role is 6pm - 2:30am.

Requirements

  • High school degree, GED, or equivalent experience required.
  • 1+ years’ custodial/floor care supervision experience.
  • 5+ years’ general custodial/floor care experience.
  • Must be experienced in training custodial staff.
  • Must be able to comprehend and communicate in English.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills - able to communicate with a diverse population in a consistently informative, respectful, and professional manner.
  • Must have basic mathematical skills.
  • Must have a well-defined sense of diplomacy, including solid negotiation, conflict resolution, and people management skills.
  • Strong negotiation skills and understanding of vendor quotes and ordering.
  • Must be highly flexible, with solid interpersonal skills that allow one to work effectively in a diverse working environment.
  • Strong customer service orientation; ability to be diplomatic, maintain high personal integrity, and skilled at building collaborative working relationships with diverse stakeholders.
  • Must be able to work independently as well as thrive in a fast-paced, hands-on, team environment; have demonstrated leadership skills.
  • Able to set goals, prioritize, delegate work, and provide feedback to others in order to complete multiple tasks on or before deadline.
  • Able to manage multiple tasks at one time; quickly and accurately shift attention among tasks under distracting conditions without loss of accuracy or appearance of frustration.
  • Able to demonstrate exceptional discretion, judgment, integrity and confidentiality when dealing with personnel issues, financial issues, and intellectual property.
  • Able to learn new tasks and become proficient in a short period of time.
  • Able to work evenings, weekends, and/or holidays as business operations demand.
  • Able to be certified in CPR and first aid.
  • Able to maintain certification throughout the course of employment.
  • Able to maintain a valid Driver’s License and provide proof of auto insurance.
  • Proficiency using the Microsoft Office Suite, including Outlook, Word, Excel.
  • Must have good organizational and communication skills.
  • Must possess excellent interpersonal and communication skills (written and verbal).

Responsibilities

  • Supervise the operations of custodial/floor care staff to ensure the achievement of productivity and quality service standards.
  • Coach and train staff to perform their duties effectively.
  • Develops, prepares, and implements custodial training program.
  • Prepare weekly schedule for custodial staff, ensuring company/legal labor standards are observed and organizational facilities needs are met.
  • Manage daily log/ticketing system, verifying information is correct and all custodial/floor care projects completed.
  • Supports the team in the completion of nightly activities, working on-the-floor to complete tasks as needed.
  • Work and track projects daily to upgrade the quality of the overall facility.
  • Perform regular inspections to identify cleaning and floor care deficiencies, maintenance concerns, and safety compliance issues.
  • Ensure that attendance timecards are completed daily and in accordance with OHS policy, state and federal employment law.
  • Ensures high level of customer service; fosters a welcoming, respectful work environment that supports teamwork and models high performance standards.
  • Respond to all facilities requests in a timely, efficient, and friendly manner.
  • Develops RFPs, gathers quotes, and coordinates timely and accurate service completion with third parties.
  • Works with vendors to resolve problems and respond to internal suggestions for improvements and enhancements.
  • Oversees vendors (such as floor services) to ensure the achievement of productivity and quality service standards.
  • Report and track lost and found articles.
  • Follow company policy and procedures (including OSHA, BPA regulations, and other state and local regulations).
  • Apply all safety and security policies consistently.
  • Participate in hiring and evaluation process.
  • Promotes innovation and improved services for OHS employees and customers.
  • Attends training sessions and participates in professional training opportunities.
  • Assists in exterior projects throughout the OHS campus as requested.
  • Patrol parking lots and grounds picking up litter and debris.
  • Perform on call duties as requested by management.
  • Understand and be able to respond to intrusion and fire alarms as well as other building emergencies that may come up during working hours.
  • Send a daily report of work shift activities and observations to the facilities manager daily.
  • Performs related duties as requested by management.
  • Supervises custodial/floor care staff, external vendors, and consultants.
