About The Position

The Position: Position General Summary: The Curriculum Specialist is responsible for the overall planning, designing, and development of course content and assessments for a specific subject area(s). The Curriculum Specialist is responsible for curriculum innovation, design, and research, as well as ensuring the development and maintenance of the highest quality courses for FLVS and its clients/partners. The Curriculum Specialist assists in reviewing externally produced content and resources, sometimes working with vendors to produce FLVS content. The Curriculum Specialist maintains regular contact with the FDOE, as well as other relevant agencies, regarding standards and pertinent legislation, disseminating information regarding relevant policy changes.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree; or equivalent combination of education and relevant experience
  • Valid Florida Professional Teaching Certificate in assigned subject area
  • Three years’ curriculum design, development, and implementation experience; or equivalent combination relevant experience
  • Knowledge of subject matter, pedagogy, and curriculum design
  • Knowledge of copyright standards
  • Ability to meet deadlines and prioritize diverse tasks
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong interpersonal, leadership, and motivational skills

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for owning the Curriculum Development Life Cycle as it relates to scoping, planning, designing, and developing course content and assessments
  • Initiate and finalize the planning of course content through researching, scoping, and sequencing of course content to ensure student success
  • Evaluate content, deconstruct standards, and analyze data to create assessment blueprints, assessment parent items and clones, to ensure the creation of high-quality formative and summative assessments
  • Collaborate with content writers and subject matter experts during the course development process through the reviewing, editing, and writing of lesson scripts and assessments, providing in depth assistance as needed
  • Collaborate with the design, development, and quality assurance teams to ensure high quality content that meets student and teacher needs
  • Facilitate teacher training and ongoing listening sessions to share the rationale and approach behind the curriculum
  • Lead a continuous improvement model of course development through active engagement with stakeholder groups
  • Develop content and assessments that meet state, national, and/or College Board standards
  • Research and collaborate with other Curriculum Development team members to seek out and design innovative content for students
  • Develop and maintain collaborative relationships with Flex, Full Time, Franchises, FlexPoint, and other stakeholders to ensure high quality curriculum content for students and teachers
  • Analyze and evaluate course content and data to make recommendations regarding revisions, redevelopments, and new courses
  • Continuously work to apply lessons learned, best practices, and innovative practices to improve the quality of the FLVS course catalog
  • Evaluate and review externally produced content and resources
  • Maintain professional membership(s) and disseminate appropriate information from national and state organizations, as well as from the FDOE
  • Research new and innovative curriculum practices
  • Document and maintain standard operating procedures for FLVS Curriculum Department
  • Collaborate with vendors to develop FLVS content
  • Stay current with curricular trends and standards changes by maintaining professional memberships, attending conferences, and maintaining regular communication with the FDOE
  • Meet professional obligations through efficient work habits such as: meeting deadlines, honoring schedules, coordinating resources and meetings in an effective and timely manner, while demonstrating respect for others
