About The Position

The Curiosity Camp Instructor is responsible for planning and implementing themed summer camp sessions for children aged 3-14 at the Rochester Museum & Science Center. This role involves leading a teaching team, ensuring a safe and engaging learning environment, and facilitating hands-on educational experiences. Instructors will also manage classroom dynamics, maintain records, and communicate with campers and their families.

Requirements

  • Experience working in an educational setting (formal or informal) with children aged 3-14.
  • Outgoing personality with a love for interacting with children and lifelong learning.
  • Strong leadership and communication skills.
  • Ability to correspond effectively via email.
  • Physical ability to move classroom supplies and equipment weighing up to 25 lbs.
  • Ability to host programs for extended periods, standing and sitting, and moving around the classroom and campus.
  • Experience developing, implementing, and evaluating hands-on, child-directed curriculum.
  • Familiarity with summer camp settings, museums, and informal education.
  • CPR and first aid certification or willingness to become certified.

Nice To Haves

  • 1 year of childcare experience (preferred).
  • First Aid Certification (preferred).
  • CPR Certification (preferred).

Responsibilities

  • Actively teach and supervise campers for the duration of the camp day.
  • Use best practices in classroom management to ensure campers are safe and inspired to learn.
  • Implement educational programs and activities based on lesson plans.
  • Facilitate hands-on learning experiences, adapting to campers' needs and interests.
  • Understand and enforce all RMSC procedures related to health, safety, and emergencies.
  • Identify and respond to campers' medical and behavioral needs, reporting to Camp Administration as necessary.
  • Keep accurate records of attendance, medical/behavioral concerns, accidents/injuries, and program evaluations.
  • Facilitate daily check-in and check-out, communicating with campers and their families.
  • Direct a teaching team, providing leadership and support.
  • Create a welcoming and inclusive environment for all campers and families.
  • Attend and participate in all Curiosity Camps meetings, training sessions, and workshops.
  • Maintain a clean and organized camp environment, communicating needs with Camp Administration.
  • Participate in off-season programming if possible.
