The Lucas Museum of Narrative Art is seeking a Curatorial Research Assistant to join its curatorial team. This position is integral to the museum's mission of exploring storytelling through images and will involve providing in-depth research and organizational support for collections and exhibition development. The Curatorial Research Assistant will report directly to the Curator and Manager of Collections Development and will play a key role in conducting object research and historical analysis of the museum's collections. This role requires a combination of independent work and collaboration with museum staff to support various curatorial initiatives. The Curatorial Research Assistant will be responsible for conducting both online and in-person archival research across local, national, and international repositories. This research will inform recommendations to the Curatorial Department regarding exhibitions and potential acquisitions. The assistant will also serve as a liaison between the museum and various stakeholders, including archivists, scholars, and artists, to gather insights on artists' careers and specific works of art. Additionally, the role involves drafting research-based texts for various purposes, including object files, the museum's website, and educational materials. In addition to research, the Curatorial Research Assistant will manage exhibition development logistics, track exhibition and loan checklists, and provide administrative support for exhibitions. The position may require some travel for specific research projects and will involve participation in team meetings and inter-departmental working groups. The ideal candidate will possess exceptional research skills, a strong background in art history, and the ability to communicate effectively with diverse audiences.
