The Curatorial Associate at the Arkansas Museum of Fine Arts (AMFA) is a full-time, temporary position aimed at supporting the Curators and Registrar in various administrative, curatorial, and registrarial tasks related to exhibitions and programs, particularly those associated with the Art Bridges Mid-South Cohort. This role is essential in ensuring the successful organization and implementation of exhibitions, including the upcoming exhibition, A Month of Sundays, and other temporary exhibitions. The position offers an opportunity to engage with a diverse community and contribute to the museum's mission of promoting discovery, creativity, and learning through the arts.

  • Support the Curator and Registrar in all aspects of exhibition planning.
  • Assist with the preparation and maintenance of accurate checklists, reports, image files, and other exhibition details.
  • Conduct scholarly research on artists and artworks, including biographies, chronologies, and exhibition histories.
  • Help curators create, coordinate, and edit exhibition descriptions and didactic materials such as wall texts and labels.
  • Coordinate and oversee shipments of artwork, preparing and maintaining related paperwork including receipts, loan letters, and condition reports.
  • Manage loans and loan correspondence, data entry, image scanning, and maintenance of digital image assets.
  • Obtain necessary copyright rights and reproduction permissions.
  • Work with the museum's database, The Museum Systems (TMS) Collections.
  • Serve as liaison to partner museums within the Art Bridges Mid-South Cohort.
  • Perform other related duties as needed.
  • Bachelor of Arts degree in Museum Studies, Art History, Public History, or a related field (Master's preferred); or two years of related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 1-2 years of curatorial experience in a museum or gallery setting, preferably focused on contemporary art.
  • Excellent organization, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong research and writing skills with a focus on art history.
  • Ability to use Microsoft Office including Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint, and Adobe Acrobat.
  • Art handling experience preferred.
  • Creative problem solver with a passion for arts and cultural institutions.
  • Competitive salary range of $48.7K - $61.7K per year.
