The Texas A&M University Libraries are seeking a dedicated Curator of Maps (Assistant Librarian) to manage and expand their extensive collection of rare, unique, and historical maps. This role involves curating engaging exhibitions and supporting academic research, making it ideal for someone passionate about cartography. The selected candidate will work independently within this area of expertise, showcasing their love for preserving and sharing cartographic history. The Curator of Maps will be housed in the Cushing Memorial Library & Archives and will also manage the Map Room within the Evans Library. This position offers incredible potential for growth and the opportunity to work with world-class map collections. In this role, the Curator of Maps will manage and provide expertise for contemporary, rare, and historic maps and atlases, including their production, cartographic methods, and digital collections. The position supports academic programs by providing reference activities to meet the needs of students, faculty, and researchers. The Curator will also manage acquisitions and donations for both special collections and circulating collection materials, developing and maintaining relationships with current and future donors to augment and promote the map collections. Additionally, the Curator will participate in processing activities, including the arrangement and description of maps, the creation of archival finding aids, and assisting with cataloging and metadata. Collaboration with other curators and archivists in the Special Collections and Archives Division will be essential to create maps-specific digital collections that enhance engagement with maps and related materials. The Curator will also assist with exhibitions and tours, providing excellent customer service to patrons and representing the Libraries in marketing endeavors. This role requires participation in professional organizations and scholarly activities to incorporate new ideas and technologies into library services and programs.
