The Curator for Drawings & Archives at Columbia University is responsible for leading the collection-related activities of the Avery Architectural & Fine Arts Library's Drawings & Archives Department. This role involves collaboration with faculty and students, outreach to international scholars, and the management of departmental staff. The Curator will oversee conservation, processing, and digitization projects, strengthen core collecting areas, and provide instructional support for academic programs.

  • Lead and maintain collection-related activities of the Drawings & Archives Department.
  • Manage departmental staff and oversee conservation, processing, and digitization projects.
  • Strengthen core collecting areas and explore new areas of collection growth.
  • Provide course-integrated instruction for D&A, focusing on the Graduate School of Architecture, Planning and Preservation and the Department of Art History and Archaeology.
  • Collaborate with the Head of Exhibitions & Digital Asset Management for exhibition loans and prepare objects for loans.
  • Represent the Department at external venues and professional conferences.
  • Develop public programs and events to promote awareness of D&A collections.
  • Graduate degree in relevant field (MLIS/MSIS, MA, MS or PhD) with expertise in American architectural history and theory.
  • Ability to interpret architectural scholarship for the general public.
  • Thorough knowledge of architectural records, archival materials, and preservation practices.
  • Strong organizational skills and excellent communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work collegially and collaboratively with diverse groups.
  • Previous project management experience and experience building and stewarding collections.
  • Familiarity with digital project development and management, and digitization and web technologies.
  • Supervisory experience.
  • Knowledge of online sources, databases, and sites relating to special collections.
