About The Position

The Curator at the Centennial Museum is responsible for the overall management of the museum's collections, including database upkeep, research requests, and inventories. This role involves curating both temporary and permanent exhibits, conducting research, and collaborating with other staff and external curators. The Curator also plays a key role in outreach and public service objectives of the museum, ensuring the preservation and presentation of the natural and cultural history of the Chihuahuan Desert.

Requirements

• Bachelor's Degree in a relevant field.
• Five years of experience related to museum duties and responsibilities, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Responsibilities

• Direct activities related to the instruction, acquisition, exhibition, safekeeping, research, and public service objectives of the museum.
• Manage the Permanent Collections, including maintaining donor and object record files, processing objects, and monitoring security.
• Maintain the database and all records pertaining to the collection.
• Coordinate all incoming and outgoing object loans and maintain related paperwork.
• Develop and update key museum policies, including collection management and disaster preparedness plans.
• Assist in the supervision of students, staff, volunteers, and interns in handling and caring for objects.
• Provide outreach to the UTEP community and the public through tours and presentations.
• Coordinate with the Director and/or Curators to install and prepare artifacts for exhibition.
• Oversee the installation and removal of temporary exhibits and plan for traveling exhibits.
• Participate in grant writing to secure funding for museum collections and exhibits.
