Curators perform a broad range of professional and technical museum work involving, but not limited to, assessment, evaluation, survey, inventory, preservation, research, education, and planning for a specific collection and/or program area within a museum. The Nevada State Museum (NSM), Division of Museums and History within the Department of Tourism and Cultural Affairs, is seeking a Curator III of History. This position is responsible for providing leadership, vision, access, planning, and management for the museum's History Department. The Curator III will work closely with the Curator III Registrar of the Museum and report directly to the NSM Director. The responsibilities of the Curator III include processing, arrangement, cataloging, description, inventories, preservation, updating and maintaining procedures and policies, managing and maintaining relevant databases, strategic planning, budget management, personnel and volunteer supervision, project fundraising, and procuring external funding for research. The Curator will also participate in public programs, assess user experience and use statistics, and provide information for reports. In addition to management and planning functions, the position plays a role in the day-to-day operations of the NSM. The Curator is expected to engage in outreach programming, research, and produce media related to Nevada history for the public. They will act as the point of contact for research requests for the history collection and collaborate with the registrar's office, education, and exhibits staff on programs as needed.
