The Genetic Curation Scientist I position at Fulgent Therapeutics is an entry-level role focused on the research, investigation, and classification of genetic variants. The role involves using proprietary software and scientific literature to determine the pathogenicity of DNA sequence variants in patients. The position also includes responsibilities for quality control, technical assessment, and drafting clinical lab reports, all while collaborating with laboratory directors and genetic counselors.

  • Perform quality control assessment for Next Generation Sequencing and other molecular diagnostic assays.
  • Classify detected variants according to internal and professional guidelines.
  • Draft clinical lab reports according to internal and professional standards for final review and sign-out.
  • Review literature and databases to evaluate gene-disease associations.
  • Review and update genetic variations based on new information.
  • Support the Client Services Department and Laboratory Genetic Counselors in responding to client requests for information on variant interpretation.
  • Participate in research & development projects as they arise.
  • Work on weekends and holidays on a rotating schedule.
  • Ph.D. in Human Genetics or a related field, or MD with a strong molecular genetics background or previous DNA sequencing reporting experience.
  • Proven ability to critically read and interpret scientific literature.
  • Strong computer, scientific, and organizational skills.
  • Outstanding attention to detail and efficient work habits.
  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team with self-motivation and adaptability.
  • Familiarity with Mendelian genetics and thorough knowledge of molecular genetics.
