About The Position

This position is responsible for reviewing, planning, organizing and responding to outside agency notices for projects that may impact cultural/historical resources. Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Anthropology, Archaeology, Native American Studies, History, or associated field of study is required.
  • Must pass periodic random drug screens.
  • Must be able to pass background suitability investigation.
  • Must obtain a Tribal Gaming License.
  • Must obtain all other applicable certifications and licenses.
  • Must provide proof of eligibility to work in the United States within 72 hours of employment.
  • Must be available for emergency calls 24/7.
  • Must be available to work weekend and holidays.

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of GIS/GPS preferred.
  • Field experience in cultural/historical resource monitoring and surveying is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Provide outstanding customer service to guests and all other employees by exceeding our mission statement.

  • Review and analyze environmental review documents, cultural/archaeological resources reports and other documentation pertaining to cultural resources protection that the THPO assigns.
  • Draft official comments on behalf of the THPO concerning development projects, management plans, mitigation measures and any other work-related tasks assigned by the THPO.
  • Assist in the identification of Tribal cultural resources and artifacts under supervision of Tribal Historic Preservation Officer.
  • Become familiar with laws and regulations that apply to cultural resources/historic preservation.
  • Perform a wide range of key functions necessary to the grant development/implementation process; including conducting research, assist in preparing budgets, writing and editing components of grant proposals, completing grant deliverables, and grant reporting.
  • Recognize cultural resources and be able to monitor all ground distributing activity including mass grading, grubbing, weed abatement, trenching and any excavation on previously disturbed and/or undisturbed ground.
  • Develops and maintains relationships in regards to NAGPRA sensitive collections, conducts formal consultations, establishes culturally appropriate guideless for handling and curation of human remains, funerary objects, sacred objects, and objects of cultural patrimony and conducts visits for repatriation claims.
  • Work with the Tribe’s GIS Department to update and maintain a geodatabase of cultural resources and culturally sensitive areas within the Tribe’s Traditional Land Use Territory.
  • Coordinate with consultants on projects assigned by the THPO.
  • Attend meetings as assigned by the THPO, on and off the Reservation.
  • Assist in the development and management of a Cultural Resources Monitoring Program for the Tribe, including travel and related spending authorization responsibilities.
  • Acts as a representative of the THPO by promoting its resources, programs, and services, which may include education or outreach-based programming, as well as assisting in the planning and preparation of collection displays and/or exhibits.
  • Ensure compliance with all Minimum Internal Control Standards (MICS) as well as all Tribal Internal Control Standards (TICS).
  • Present a positive image of the Tribal organization to its guests and vendors and to assist them as required.
  • Must follow all safety policies and procedures and attend all scheduled safety meetings and training as a condition of employment.
  • Perform any other duties that may be assigned from time to time.
