About The Position

The Construction and Facilities Management Office (CFMO) is the principal advisor to the Montana Adjutant General regarding all real property, facilities, construction, and environmental management programs for the Montana Army National Guard (MTARNG ). CFMO manages the sustainment and recapitalization of existing real property and the construction of new facilities. The centralization of the construction and facility management expertise in CFMO enables the division to efficiently and resourcefully support the individual missions of MTARNG, Montana Disaster and Emergency Services, Montana Youth Challenge Academy, STARBASE and Montana Veterans Affairs. CFMO manages over 1,600 assets\: roughly 2M square feet of facility space and 32,000 acres of land . CFMO is looking for a Cultural Resources Specialist who will be responsible for overseeing the management of the cultural resources within the MTARNG training ranges at Fort Harrison and Limestone Hills, along with historic facilities and structures throughout the state of Montana. Duties include performing field and administrative work; coordinating with other bureaus for critical activities such as construction, long-range planning, building repair and maintenance; implementing cultural resource projects as specified in the integrated cultural resources management plan (ICRMP); managing DMA lands to improve and protect cultural resources on MTARNG training ranges; and administering cultural resource program operations.

Responsibilities

  • Plans and develops cultural resource assessments to meet program objectives and support MTARNG actions and mission readiness. This includes considering the MTARNG training mission; determining the location and significance of cultural resources impacted by DMA projects and military operations; and determining how best to comply with environmental protection and enhancement regulations.
  • Conducts monitoring, surveys, and studies on DMA lands utilized by MTARNG. This includes developing baseline information; compiling data on cultural resource features; determining factors affecting them (e.g., on-the-ground military training); and recommending measures to minimize impacts and promote sustainability.
  • Engage in ongoing consultation with Tribes as required by Federal law to support the identification and protection of cultural resources and areas of Tribal significance.
  • Examine proposed Federal and State regulations to determine their impact on MTARNG and DMA cultural resources and establish policies and timelines to meet the intent of new regulations.
  • Maintain and monitor cultural resource management information systems to provide accurate and timely information and tracking of resources and projects. This includes integrating advanced computer systems (e.g., GIS, , inventories, etc.); ensuring systems are updated with new or changing information; answering National Guard Bureau data calls regarding resource management (e.g., EQ Data Call HQ Survey) and recommending new technology or systems to improve program operations.
