About The Position

OVERVIEW OF THE ROLE: The Cultural Broker & Language Facilitator will support efforts to establish and strengthen relationships between families and the Brunswick School community; assist in implementing systems and programming designed to provide relevant and timely information and resources to families; assist in building an internal culture that values family engagement; and work to connect both students and families to support services that will help address barriers to successful engagement in school. DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES: Translate district documents and provide interpretation services to families needing language access services Assess the needs of families and collaborate with school-based leaders, teachers, social workers, guidance counselors, and other school staff to implement programming to meet those needs, within the capabilities of the school Assist with parent orientation, training, and other informational sessions for families Assist with family intake services for new students registering for school Attend student support teams, RTI meetings, IEP meetings as needed Conduct home visits, when appropriate, to facilitate contact with parents and clarify any additional needs Commit to growing professionally through consistent and constant feedback and reflection Must be able to work a flexible schedule to accommodate family and community outreach and/or events on evenings and weekends , as needed KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, and ABILITIES: A proven track record of working collaboratively and productively with all stakeholders – students, teachers, school staff, parents and community-based groups, particularly in an urban environment Strong communication verbal and written communication skills Exceptional interpersonal skills, with a track record of working collaboratively with staff at all levels, parents and community Demonstrated ability to manage and develop capacity in adults A commitment to high performance standards and unwavering belief that all students can excel QUALIFICATIONS & LICENSE REQUIREMENTS: Bilingual and biliterate in English and Portuguese, as evidenced by a certified language proficiency assessment Bachelor’s Degree preferred at least 2 years of relevant experience preferred PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Light physical effort required; significant stamina required to handle long days. Attendance at evening meetings required. Ability to manage stressful situations. District-wide travel required.
