The Cultivation Manager is responsible for planning, executing, and overseeing all cultivation activities at Texas Original’s production facility from propagation through flowering and harvest. This role ensures consistent production of high-quality cannabis biomass that aligns with production schedules, regulatory requirements, and internal quality standards. The Cultivation Manager develops crop plans, oversees greenhouse and environmental systems, manages genetics, leads the cultivation team, and ensures accurate and compliant cultivation documentation. This is a hands-on leadership role requiring strong horticultural expertise, environmental systems knowledge, technical problem-solving, and the ability to manage people and processes in a highly regulated, fast-paced environment.

Requirements

  • Must be at least 21 years of age.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a valid state-issued TCUP badge.
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to follow instructions precisely.
  • Familiarity with plant tracking software and standard cultivation tools and equipment.
  • Excellent organizational, time management, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to lift 50 lbs, stand for extended periods, and work in variable environmental conditions (heat, humidity, PPE).
  • 5+ years of hands-on experience in commercial cannabis cultivation, propagation, greenhouse, or related agricultural setting with understanding of the seed to sale needs.
  • 1-2 years of power tool experience and an intermediate knowledge of related agricultural infrastructure.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor's degree in Agronomy, Plant Science, Horticulture, or related field (preferred, but not required).
  • Experience with greenhouse environmental systems automation a plus.
  • Heavy Equipment Operator Certified (or able to obtain).

Responsibilities

  • Manage all daily cultivation activities including propagation, seeding, transplanting, irrigation, fertigation, canopy management, IPM, pruning, trellising, and harvesting.
  • Create and manage crop schedules aligned with production forecasts and inventory needs.
  • Complete daily, weekly, and monthly cultivation logs documenting environmental conditions, plant progress, irrigation cycles, and operational metrics.
  • Develop and maintain task flows for cultivation phases and use them to train and supervise technicians.
  • Ensure adherence to safety protocols across all plant stages and cultivation environments.
  • Collaborate with the Cultivation Supervisor to meet propagation, flowering, and harvest schedules.
  • Assist with harvest operations including plant take-down, bucking, grinding, drying, and transfer.
  • Design and refine harvest, dry, and cure techniques to meet extraction feedstock specifications.
  • Research, evaluate, and acquire genetics that support yield, quality, and production goals.
  • Develop labor models, labor data sheets, and staffing projections to support operational scaling and facility expansion.
  • Ensure plant counts and compliance regulations are met through accurate reporting and inspection readiness.
  • Train technicians on greenhouse systems, environmental controls, and facility-related programs.
  • Develop internal maintenance and activity schedules for greenhouse vents, curtains, and environmental systems; coordinate subcontractor needs with the Facilities Manager.
  • Assist with trellising of flowering plants to maximize canopy density, airflow, and support.
  • Design and oversee fertigation and IPM systems; manage inventory for nutrients, biologicals, substrates, and cultivation supplies and communicate purchasing needs to Buyer.
  • Maintain cultivation equipment and greenhouse/water room infrastructure, coordinate repairs and preventive maintenance with Facilities.
  • Apply foundational knowledge of low-voltage wiring, plumbing, HVAC, and mechanical systems to support cultivation operations as capable.
  • Work with the Director of Operations to implement proper safety protocols, including fire safety and facility-level safety expectations.
  • Update cultivation reports for weekly and monthly leadership meetings.
  • Report schedule changes, risks, and mitigation plans to the Director of Operations and executive leadership.
  • Create labor data sheets and project labor needs for expansion (duplicate preserved as requested).
  • Maintain HR standards and conduct monthly 1-on-1s with team members, supporting coaching, development, and corrective action when appropriate.
  • Maintain accurate and updated SOPs for all cultivation processes and workflows.
  • Support facility operations related to safety, fire safety, and environmental compliance.
  • Complete daily, weekly, and monthly logs providing cultivation metrics for cross-functional use.
  • Monitor chemical and biological inputs, ensuring safe handling, inventory tracking, and proper disposal.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support cultivation, greenhouse, and facility operations.
