About The Position

Martha O’Bryan Center is an anti-poverty non-profit organization with longstanding history and deep community roots, grounded in tradition and strengthened by innovation. Food Security Team Member Participants will plant and maintain garden beds at Stratford High, assist in the MOBC Food Bank, participate in healthy cooking classes, as well as design and create a community cookbook. Participants will learn about sustainable gardening and research information on food deserts and organic foods. Objectives are to learn gardening skills, understand health food preparation, and basic graphic design (for the booklet).

Responsibilities

  • Plant and maintain garden beds at Stratford High
  • Assist in the MOBC Food Bank
  • Participate in healthy cooking classes
  • Design and create a community cookbook/booklet
  • Learn about sustainable gardening

  • Work with Near Peer coach and ASU staff on project development and execution
  • Research food choices
  • Build a community garden
  • Create a high school friendly booklet
  • Work on computers to aid in graphic design relative to producing the recipe booklet
  • Host a cooking demonstration at the end of the project
