Requirements

  • Knowledge of food preparation and handling techniques.
  • General knowledge of safety and sanitation rules and practices.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of fire safety procedures.
  • Ability to work in high volume, high stress environment.
  • Critical thinking skills: ability to work autonomously and make efficient use of time and resources.
  • Must be a minimum of eighteen (18) years of age.
  • Demonstrated competency of Physical Assessment within 90 days, as evaluated by Culinary Services Manager.
  • Sufficient manual dexterity to operate a fire extinguisher and to manipulate kitchen equipment, including slicer, chopper, processor, knives, etc.
  • Ability to get along well with others; demonstrates a high level of sensitivity and interest in people, especially older adults.
  • Ability to read, write, speak, and understand the English language.
  • Ability to use simple math concepts.
  • Food Handler’s Permit required and kept current.
  • Previous cooking/food service experience, preferred.
  • High School Diploma or GED.

Responsibilities

  • Cleaning and sanitizing work areas, equipment, utensils, and dishes.
  • Preparing hot food, including accompaniments and garnishes.
  • Following preparation guide and provided recipes, prepare hot entrees, soups and vegetables for dining room service, healthcare center, cafeteria, and special functions.
  • Setting up workstation with sufficient product & utensils and prepares cooking & food holding equipment to ensure station is ready for meal service.
  • Preparing food in advance as indicated.
  • Arranging eye‐appealing, tasty food items following recipes provided for preparation and plate service of hot food.
  • Completing food temperature checks for each meal.
  • Tasting all food items prepared.
  • Completing preparation records and stores food items properly at close of meal service.
  • Cleaning work area and equipment used in food preparation.
  • Take necessary precautions and follow correct procedures for lifting and bending.
  • Complying with federal, state, and local health and sanitation regulations and department sanitation procedures as evidenced through local health department and third‐party audits.
  • Ensuring that all hot food preparation and assembling is done in accordance with established procedures.
  • Multitasking and allocating time appropriately for multiple different orders.
  • Maintaining cleanliness and working order of work area, tools, equipment, and supplies.
  • Assisting with evacuations of residents to a safe location in the event of fire or other emergency.
  • Communicating with supervisor when equipment or systems are not working properly or of any safety hazards.
