About The Position

A culinary laboratory assistant (lab aid) is a professional cook who helps in preparing instructional materials used during kitchen laboratory work. A culinary lab aid assists in the day-to-day operations of the culinary kitchen following the procedure set forth by Bristol Community College's Culinary Arts Department Chair.

Requirements

  • Must have completed the first year of the Culinary or Baking and Pastry program at Bristol Community College or earned an Associate's Degree in Culinary Arts from an accredited institution.
  • Ability to work as a team to achieve a common goal
  • Ability to maintain the food quality and integrity
  • Must be able to compute basic mathematical calculations
  • Ability to execute all basic cooking methods
  • Must be able to work a flexible schedule
  • Must be able to safely lift a weight of 50 pounds or more

Responsibilities

  • Prepare recipes used as instructional materials or culinary functions
  • Set-up any kitchen equipment needed for recipe preparations during laboratory or function work
  • Maintain kitchen organization and cleanliness
  • Promote sanitation and safety during kitchen laboratory work, ensuring students do not practice any unsafe behavior
  • Assist in the instruction of kitchen laboratory work under instructor's supervision
  • Conduct and maintain food inventory
  • Assist in administrative duties including: ordering supplies, running errands, filing documents, answering the phone, coordinate equipment maintenance, prepare RFE's and other day-to-day operation tasks
