About The Position

The job of Career and Technical Education Specialist is done for the purpose of providing support for the Director of Career and Technical Education and the efficient operation of the Career and Technical Education Department with specific responsibilities for assisting the direction of assigned programs and services; providing information and serving as a resource to others; helping achieve defined objectives by planning, evaluating, developing, implementing and maintaining services in compliance with established guidelines; collaborating with teachers, other professional staff, and administrators in addressing CTE issues; and responding to a wide range of inquiries from stakeholders regarding the CTE instructional program. This job reports to the Director of Career and Technical Education.

Requirements

  • SKILLS are required to perform multiple, highly complex, technical tasks with a need to periodically upgrade skills in order to meet changing job conditions. Specific skill-based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include applying assessment instruments; operating standard office equipment, including using pertinent software applications; preparing and maintaining accurate records; and applying curriculum and instructional techniques.
  • KNOWLEDGE is required to perform basic math, including calculations using fractions, percentages, and/or ratios; read technical information; compose a variety of documents; facilitate group discussions; and analyze situations to define issues and draw conclusions. Specific knowledge-based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include professional learning communities; appropriate codes, policies, regulations, and/or laws; age-appropriate activities; lesson plan requirements; stages of child development; behavioral management strategies; assessment instruments and techniques; methods of instruction and training; materials and tools used in assigned skilled trade; principles of customer service, general office operations, and records and database management; and principles of business English, grammar, spelling, and preparation of correspondence.
  • ABILITY is required to schedule activities, meetings, and/or events; gather, collate, and/or classify data; and use basic job-related equipment. Flexibility is required to work with others in a wide variety of circumstances; work with data utilizing defined but different processes; and operate equipment using standardized methods. Ability is also required to work with a diversity of individuals and/or groups; work with a variety of data; and utilize specific, job-related equipment. Problem solving is required to analyze issues and create actions plans. Problem solving with data frequently requires independent interpretation of guidelines and problem solving with equipment is moderate.   • Bachelor’s degree in job-related area

Responsibilities

  • Serve as point person for Career and Technical Student Organization (CTSO) advisors.
  • Organize and implement West-MEC’s Total Quality Indicators (TQI) evaluation and compliance process for all 5 PVUSD high schools' CTE programs; complete yearly action plan for each schools’ CTE programs.
  • Organize and implement the State Department of Education CTE division’s program compliance process for all PVUSD CTE programs.
  • Organize and implement annual officer leadership training sessions for CTSO chapters.
  • Serve as point person for CTE dual enrollment courses, working in collaboration with the community college (district’s assigned coordinating college); provide support for dual enrollment teachers.
  • Serve as point person for CTE Arizona Programs of Study; provide leadership and coordination in the development of courses of study.
  • Develop and maintain CTE promotional/informational brochures, mailers, charts, and goods.
  • Serve as point person for PVUSD course catalog: work with teachers on new course requests; assist in development of course descriptions and get approval from program area teachers; determine course fees; submit requests to Director of Curriculum; after Governing Board approval of courses, work with counselors on coherent sequence.
  • Serve as CTE representative at district Assistant Principals/Lead Counselors (AP/C) meetings.
  • Serve as CTE representative at district Counseling Leadership Team (CLT) meetings.
  • Serve as point person for all CTE Instructional Division Leader (IDL) communication; assist with the development and implementation of CTE IDL meetings.
  • Coordinate the West-MEC CTSO Outstanding Chapter application process for all CTSO advisors.
  • Research and complete a CTE course enrollment numbers report for each semester of the school year.
  • Composes, prepares, assembles, and maintains informational materials, such as correspondence, agendas, research, contacts, CTSO information, and other pertinent lists; collects and compiles statistical, financial, or other diverse and specialized information including department policies and procedures.
  • Advise and assist teachers in the CTE certification process.
  • Provide support for all CTE teachers and programs, CTE curriculum, instruction, professional development, trainings, data gathering, and marketing efforts.
  • Attend all West-MEC local directors’ meetings; serve on various West-MEC committees and sub-committees.
  • Field parent calls regarding PVUSD CTE course offerings.
  • Assist with grant management for the Perkins Grant, including developing yearly goals and amendments.
  • Assist with West-MEC mid-year and final narrative and financial reports.
  • Assist with development and implementation of CTE professional development and PLC training sessions.
  • Assist the director and support teachers in accomplishing program improvement goals and objectives.
  • Assist the director in determining teacher, capital, and instructional materials needs.
  • Assist with faculty recruitment.
  • Support CTE vision and mission.
  • Perform other related duties, as assigned, for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit.
