About The Position

This position is part of FIELD’s Career Technical Education (CTE) Pathway and is responsible for teaching courses in Nutrition and Health Science. The teacher will design and deliver engaging, student-centered instruction aligned with CTE standards and FIELD’s mission to serve diverse and underserved adult learners. The ideal candidate will share FIELD’s commitment to educating racially and socioeconomically diverse student populations. They will demonstrate cultural responsiveness, equity-minded teaching, and expertise in preparing students for careers in nutrition, health, and wellness industries.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Nutrition, Dietetics, Food Science, or a closely related field from an accredited institution.
  • Valid and verifiable work experience consistent with CTE teacher requirements (typically at least two years of recent, relevant industry experience in Nutrition, Health, or Food Service fields).
  • Experience working with diverse adult learners and underserved populations.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop curriculum aligned with CTE standards and industry expectations.
  • Ability to create culturally responsive, inclusive classroom environments that support equitable student success.
  • Strong communication and organizational skills.
  • Proficiency with educational technology, including Canvas LMS, virtual learning tools, and other instructional platforms.
  • Proof of eligibility to work in the United States.
  • Valid California Driver’s License.
  • Proof of automobile insurance coverage.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree in Nutrition or Education.
  • CTE teaching credential (or ability to obtain within a defined timeframe), as applicable.
  • Bilingual and/or bicultural background.
  • Experience teaching in adult education, workforce training, high school CTE, or community college settings.
  • Current or prior credential/certification in Nutrition, Health Education, or a related discipline.
  • Experience with curriculum development in a nutrition setting (e.g., restaurant, school cafeteria, community nutrition programs).
  • Familiarity with internship coordination and workforce development partnerships.

Responsibilities

  • Teach CTE-aligned courses in Nutrition and related health fields, based on expertise and qualifications.
  • Deliver instruction across multiple modalities including in-person, hybrid, and online formats using Canvas (and other platforms).
  • Develop and implement lesson plans and syllabi aligned with approved department course outlines, CTE standards, and industry expectations.
  • Create a supportive, inclusive, and student-centered learning environment.
  • Assess student learning outcomes and progress through exams, projects, demonstrations, and practical applications.
  • Maintain accurate records of student enrollment, attendance, and academic progress.
  • Provide timely, actionable feedback and opportunities for students to improve performance.
  • Participate in CTE program development, advisory committee meetings, curriculum alignment, and continuous improvement efforts.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to integrate work-based learning, internships, and industry engagement into coursework.
  • Stay current with industry trends, credentialing requirements, and best practices in Nutrition and CTE instruction.
  • Support FIELD’s mission through participation in internal and external activities, committees, and professional development focused on diversity, equity, inclusion, and anti-racist teaching.
  • Perform additional related duties as assigned.
