About The Position

Under general supervision of a registered nurse, the Care Team Associate performs routine tasks in patient care within the Medicine Specialty Unit. This role involves systematically and continually monitoring the patient’s health status, implementing the plan of care in collaboration with the patient and family, and carrying out physician and nursing orders within scope. The associate is responsible for various patient care procedures, assisting with admissions, discharges, and transfers, transporting patients, maintaining a clean patient environment, and restocking supplies. When assigned as a safety attendant, the CTA provides continuous observation and care to a single patient. The position may also involve precepting new CTAs.

Requirements

  • HS Diploma or GED.
  • No experience.
  • Current Basic Life Support issued by the American Heart Association.
  • Certified Patient Care Technician (CPCT) OR Patient Care Technician (PCTC) OR Advanced Unlicensed Assistant (AUA).
  • Knowledge of basic nursing techniques and procedures.
  • Ability to communicate effectively.
  • Ability to follow written and oral instructions.
  • Ability to maintain effective working relations with others.

Responsibilities

  • Under general supervision of the RN and in collaboration with the patient and family, systematically and continually monitors the patient’s health status and implements the plan of care.
  • Carries out physician and nursing orders as directed by the RN that is within scope.
  • Takes/records blood pressures, temperatures, pulse and weighs patients.
  • Performs blood glucose monitoring.
  • Sets up and discontinues telemetry monitor.
  • Collects specimens as directed.
  • Applies sterile dressings, removal of sutures, staples and/or drains.
  • Performs all sterile procedures as assigned.
  • Performs stomal irrigation and applies colostomy pouches.
  • Performs oral suctioning.
  • Takes emergency actions as needed and within scope.
  • Performs all treatments and procedures as defined on initial skills checklist.
  • Reports symptoms and significant changes in patient’s condition or behavior to RN.
  • Assists with admission, discharge and transfer process.
  • Transports patients to and from various treatment centers when necessary; assists transporters in moving patients in and out of stretchers and wheelchairs.
  • Keeps the patient’s room in clean and orderly condition; makes beds, replaces soiled linen.
  • Assists in restocking rooms with supplies and equipment as directed.
  • When assigned to one patient as a safety attendant, provides care, observes the patient and does not leave the patient alone.
  • May precept new CTAs.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
