About the position

Certified Teaching Assistants (CTAs) provide instructional services to students under the general supervision of a Certified Teacher. This position involves working with individual students or groups of students on special instructional projects, providing the teacher with information about students to assist in the development of appropriate learning and behavioral experiences, and utilizing special skills in areas such as foreign languages, arts, crafts, and music. The role also includes maintaining instructional materials and performing general clerical tasks to support the teacher.

Responsibilities

  • Work with individual students or groups of students on special instructional projects.
  • Provide the teacher with information about students which will assist the teacher in the development of appropriate learning and behavioral experiences.
  • Assist students in the use of available instructional resources, and assist in the development of instructional materials.
  • Utilize own special skills and abilities by assisting in instructional programs in such areas as: foreign languages, arts, crafts, music and similar subjects.
  • Assist in related instructional work as required.
  • Assist students with specific health related activities as appropriate.
  • Maintain instructional materials and/or manual and electronic files/records for the purpose of ensuring availability of items, providing written reports, or meeting mandated requirements.
  • Perform general clerical tasks for the purpose of helping the teacher get instructional materials ready.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • NYSD Certification as a Level I Teaching Assistant (Must obtain Level III within 4 years of appointment).
  • Completion of required state workshops, e.g., Child Abuse Detection & Reporting, School Violence Prevention, and DASA.

  • Minimum Starting Range = $18.93 - $25.18
