Work Shift Day (United States of America) Job Summary Must be flexible with work hours to meet department needs. The shift for this position will be 24 hrs/week: Sat-Sun 7a-730p. Must be dependable, accountable and cooperative. Assists with providing safe, age‑appropriate care to the patient by performing all exams provided by the department according to department procedures. Has the knowledge and ability to properly and safely obtain a quality diagnostic study. Responsible for performing a wide variety of technical procedures requiring independent judgment, ingenuity and initiative in the utilization of equipment for diagnosis and/or treatment of diseases. Able to independently perform job functions. Sets up the equipment to provide imaging service and positions patient for the procedure.

Requirements

  • Graduate of AMA‑approved School of Radiology Technology — Required
  • ARRT Radiography
  • ARRT Computed Tomography
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) or BLS‑Instructor
  • Minimum 1 year experience in Radiology — Required
  • Must exhibit excellent communication skills due to frequent interaction with physicians, patients, visitors and staff.
  • Routinely obtains, presents and discusses clinical information regarding job responsibilities.
  • Able to explain or give directions to maintain goodwill and obtain cooperation.
  • Must function independently and under pressure while actively participating in a team environment.
  • Must demonstrate excellent customer service skills at all times.

  • Competent in all aspects of CT, patient positioning, exposure factors and radiation protection.

  • Competent to perform all ACR and manufacturer‑recommended Quality Control tests

Responsibilities

  • Patient Care Verifies proper clinician order for procedure.
  • Obtains complete clinical history, gathers examination data and assesses for contraindicating conditions.
  • Follows established procedures for administering contrast medias to ensure patient safety.
  • Ensures all studies have proper patient identification and correct right/left marker usage.
  • Reviews CT/radiographic images for clinically acceptable results and releases patients.
  • Responds to emergency situations; maintains and restocks crash cart and life‑support equipment.
  • Assists other technologists in all modalities when needed.
  • Observes patient condition and evaluates situations requiring physician intervention.
  • Verifies correct identity of patient using two unique identifiers per hospital policy.
  • Ensures patient privacy and comfort; maintains patient dignity throughout the exam/procedure.
  • Demonstrates competence in selecting and applying appropriate procedures, equipment, supplies and techniques based on patient age.
  • Organizes schedule, time and priorities to complete tasks within designated time frames.
  • Follows physician instructions when assisting with procedures and exams.
  • Demonstrates proficiency with loading and operating power injection.
  • Uses critical thinking skills.
  • Dialogs with patient/family.
  • Asks clarifying questions.
  • Seeks clarification on ambiguous orders.
  • Understands, demonstrates and documents preprocedural verification and Time Out process when appropriate.
  • Demonstrates and understands pre‑ and post‑procedural care.
  • Preps the patient for the procedure.
  • Demonstrates and understands sterile technique.
  • Maintains competency with venipuncture.
  • Equipment Adjusts technique so the patient receives the lowest possible dose of ionizing radiation while maintaining image quality.
  • Reports malfunctioning equipment to supervisor or service provider.
  • Cleans, disinfects and maintains equipment in accordance with infection control policy and department cleaning schedule.
  • Education and Communication Clearly explains procedure purpose and nature using AIDET to minimize anxiety and facilitate cooperation.
  • Ensures patient questions, concerns or contraindications are addressed; notifies physician when unresolved.
  • Participates in orientation and training of departmental employees.
  • Provides patients with preparatory instruction and explanation of procedures.
  • Documentation is concise, legible and includes precise terminology.
  • Reads email daily and completes assigned tasks.
  • Completes required departmental and hospital‑wide education without prompting.
  • Quality Control Consistently produces acceptable images as evidenced by radiologist feedback and quality audits.
  • Verifies that equipment is fully operational before each use by checking calibration and operating deficiencies.
  • Sends all studies to PACS immediately after completion; prints CDs as needed.
  • Prints and scans after‑hours teleradiography studies into PACS when applicable.
  • Completes all studies in RIS before completing in PACS.
  • Prints completed log sheet from teleradiography and submits to Radiologist when applicable.
  • Operations Restocks linens and supplies and maintains the department in clean and orderly condition.
  • Transports and positions patients and assists them on and off the procedure table.
  • Performs patient charging activities on the day the service is rendered.
  • Applies shielding, supportive and immobilization devices and equipment.
  • Willingly lends knowledge and assistance to others when needed and as time allows.
  • Performs clerical and support duties as required to ensure service continuity and quality.
  • Keeps supervisor informed of responsibilities and promptly reports potential problems.
  • Maintains productivity equal to other staff.
  • Operates all workstations associated with the CT department.
  • Pushes/retrieves images from the CT console to PACS.
  • Maintains Joint Commission and all regulatory agency standards.
  • Takes call when necessary.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Complies with Wellstar Health System policies, standards of work and code of conduct.
