The Computed Tomography (CT) Technologist is responsible for operating specialized computerized x-ray equipment to produce cross-sectional images of the human anatomy. This aids radiologists, physicians and other healthcare professionals in diagnosing a wide variety of diseases and disorders. This position assists in training students and technologists and performs injection procedures. The CT Technologist maintains optimum timeliness, accuracy, proficiency, efficiency, and safety during the execution of duties, and works closely with patients to ensure they have an understanding of procedures and are comfortable during procedures. WHAT YOU CAN EXPECT Prepare Patients for CT Procedures Prepare patients for procedures by providing clear instructions and answering questions. Position patient to scan the area of interest according to patient ability and comfort, and immobilize patients as required. Operate CT Equipment Operate CT equipment and accessories. Perform tube warm-ups and calibrations. Apply principles of radiation protection during exams to minimize unnecessary exposure. Provide Direct Patient Care Transport patients to and from their respective department, follow sterilization procedures, and use caution when in direct contact with patients. Handle hazardous materials and ensure that there is no patient cross-contamination. Sterilize X-Ray Equipment and Maintenance Sterilize and clean radiologic equipment. Perform aseptic techniques according to established standards of care and infection control. Ensure all equipment is safe for use and free of any unhealthy bacteria. Implement Continuous Improvement Procedures Perform quality improvement. Collect data, conduct patient surveys, and cooperate with quality assurance teams. Evaluate the technical quality of their exams and use different techniques to elevate this quality. Collaborate with other parties to resolve image quality issues. Collaboration Collaborates on patient medical issues with the physician to determine protocol and procedure. CT Exams Completes all CT exams and procedures; obtains the most optimal images for physician interpretation while processing and evaluating images according to policy and protocol. Patient Records Confirms patient identity. Obtains and records patient identification, medical history, or test results. Reviews and updates patient documentation in EMR and PACS. Venipuncture Performs venous punctures using universal precautions while administering contrast media. Safety Protocol Practices established safety guidelines and utilizes ALARA radiation reduction tools and techniques.
