About The Position

NeighborHealth, formerly East Boston Neighborhood Health Center, is one of the largest community health centers in the country, serving the greater Boston area with a strong commitment to patient and community health. This part-time, overnight CT Technologist position in the Radiology Department, located at 10 Gove Street – Taylor Building, involves operating a CT (computed tomography) scanner under the general supervision of the CT Supervisor. The technologist will obtain images for physician diagnosis and treatment, providing technical and ancillary support through demonstrated clinical and academic competency in CT. This includes completing training, meeting clinical responsibilities, working unsupervised, rotating to all areas as needed, and holding appropriate licensure and advanced certification as required by ARRT, ACR, and the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. The role is focused on outpatient care.

Requirements

  • Must be a graduate of an approved school of Radiologic Technology.
  • Must be ARRT registered in Radiologic Technology.
  • CT Specialty required or obtained within one year of employment.
  • BLS or CPR required.
  • Minimum 1-2 years’ experience in diagnostic radiology.
  • Must possess analytical abilities necessary to acquire and effectively utilize knowledge of imaging processes, techniques and procedures, and cross-sectional anatomy.
  • Ability to rely on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals.
  • Creativity latitude, and the ability to adapt to changing paces within the department are necessary qualities.
  • Must present a positive, team-oriented attitude and a professional appearance.
  • Must be physically capable of lifting heavy objects and patients and adhere to safety standards set forth by the Radiology Department, Neighborhealth, and other regulatory agencies.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills enough to interact effectively with patients and all/any apprehensions, to instruct students, and to interact with other staff technologists.

Responsibilities

  • Operates a CT (computed tomography) scanner to perform technologist duties as required and necessary for proper departmental workflow.
  • Performs appropriate studies as determined through policy and procedure.
  • Follows requisition in terms of providing proper study for patients.
  • Ensures that exams requested match patient condition and/or history and calls or asks the appropriate persons for more information as necessary to perform the proper study.
  • Prepares patient for exams as required and always ensures patient comfort and modesty.
  • Accommodates patient needs and staffing needs through flexibility in scheduling and timeliness of studies.
  • Set up equipment as necessary and use proper imaging techniques.
  • Adjusts imaging factors when necessary to improve study or quality factors.
  • Works through radiologist’s requirements to provide appropriate images and provides additional views and variations of techniques as requested.
  • Completes procedures in timely fashion while providing quality images for Radiology and outside departments.
  • Completes work by the end of the shift or communicates with coworkers about work needing completion.
  • Participate in intravenous (IV) training, and pass all competencies required to start and administer IV contrast material under the general observation of a qualified physician, as per department policy and procedure.
  • Maintains equipment through interaction with both management and department service vendors to maximize equipment uptime, patient care, and minimize dollar impact to the health center.
  • Performs patient-focused customer service and ensures the following standards are met appropriately and achieved.
  • Communicate patient complaints professionally to the appropriate supervisor.
  • Keeps discussions around patients to a minimum and ensures that patients are not subjected to departmental conversations and/or any inappropriate behavior.
