Has the knowledge and ability to properly and safely obtain a quality diagnostic study. Responsible for performing a wide variety of technical procedures requiring independent judgment, ingenuity and initiative in the utilization of equipment for the diagnosis and/or treatment of diseases. Able to independently perform job functions. Sets up the equipment to provide imaging service and positions patient for the procedure.

Requirements

  • Graduate of AMA‑approved School of Radiology Technology — Required
  • ARRT Radiography
  • ARRT Computed Tomography
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) or BLS‑Instructor
  • Minimum 1 year experience in Radiology — Required
  • Must exhibit excellent communication skills due to frequent verbal and written communication with physicians, patients, visitors and departmental staff.
  • Routinely obtains, presents and discusses clinical information regarding job responsibilities.
  • Must be able to explain or give directions to maintain goodwill and obtain cooperation.
  • Must function independently and under pressure while actively participating as a team member.
  • Must consistently demonstrate excellent customer‑service skills.
  • Must perform effectively in a stressful and fast‑paced work environment.
  • Must prioritize appropriately.
  • Must be detail oriented and able to multitask throughout the work shift.

  • Competent in all aspects of CT, patient positioning, exposure factors and radiation protection.

  • Competent to perform all ACR and manufacturer‑recommended Quality Control tests.

Responsibilities

  • Demonstrates the ability to adjust technique so that the patient receives the lowest possible dose of ionizing radiation while maintaining image quality.
  • Reports problems regarding malfunctioning equipment to supervisor or service provider for timely correction.
  • Cleans, disinfects and maintains equipment according to infection control policy and department cleaning schedule.
  • Verifies proper clinician order for procedure.
  • Obtains complete clinical history, gathers examination data and assesses for contraindicating conditions.
  • Follows established procedures for administering contrast medias to ensure patient safety.
  • Ensures all studies have proper patient identification and appropriate right/left markers.
  • Reviews CT/radiographic images for clinically acceptable results and releases patients.
  • Responds to emergency situations and restocks crash cart and life support equipment.
  • Assists other technologists in all modalities when needed.
  • Observes patient condition and evaluates situations requiring physician intervention.
  • Verifies correct identity using two unique patient identifiers per hospital policy.
  • Ensures patient privacy and comfort; maintains patient dignity throughout the exam/procedure.
  • Demonstrates competence in determining and applying appropriate procedures, equipment, supplies and techniques based on patient age.
  • Organizes schedule, time and priorities to ensure required activities are completed within designated time frames.
  • Follows physicians’ instructions when assisting with procedures and exams.
  • Demonstrates proficiency using power injector.
  • Uses critical thinking skills.
  • Dialogs with patient/family.
  • Asks clarifying questions.
  • Seeks clarification on ambiguous orders.
  • Understands, demonstrates and documents pre‑procedural verification and Time Out process when appropriate.
  • Demonstrates and understands pre‑ and post‑procedural care.
  • Preps the patient for the procedure.
  • Demonstrates and understands sterile technique.
  • Maintains competency with venipuncture.
  • Patiently and clearly explains purpose and nature of exam using AIDET to minimize anxiety and improve cooperation.
  • Ensures patient questions, concerns or contraindications are addressed; notifies physician when unresolved prior to procedure.
  • Participates in orientation and training of departmental employees.
  • Provides preparatory instruction and explanation of procedures to patients.
  • Required documentation is concise, legible and precise.
  • Reads email each scheduled workday and follows through with assignments.
  • Completes mandatory departmental and hospital‑wide education without prompting.
  • Consistently produces acceptable images based on radiologist feedback and quality audits.
  • Ensures equipment is fully operational prior to each use by checking calibration and operating deficiencies.
  • Sends all studies to PACS immediately after completion; prints CDs as needed.
  • Prints and scans after‑hours teleradiography studies into PACS when applicable.
  • Completes all studies in RIS prior to PACS completion.
  • Prints completed teleradiography log sheet and submits to Radiologist when applicable.
  • Restocks linens and supplies; maintains department in clean and orderly condition.
  • Transports and positions patients; assists them on and off the procedure table.
  • Performs patient charging activities on the day services are rendered.
  • Applies shielding, supportive and immobilization devices and equipment.
  • Willingly lends knowledge and assistance to others as needed and when time allows.
  • Performs clerical and support duties when required to ensure continuity and quality of services.
  • Keeps supervisor informed regarding responsibilities and promptly reports problems or potential issues.
  • Maintains productivity equal to other coworkers.
  • Ability to operate all workstations associated with the CT department.
  • Ability to push/retrieve images from the CT console to PACS.
  • Maintains Joint Commission standards and any other regulatory agency standards.
  • Takes call when necessary.
  • Any other duties as assigned.
