Department CT Scan Job Summary Under the direction of a radiologist, the CT Technologist II performs CT examinations using established protocols, working independently in routine situations and exercising sound judgment to ensure safe and accurate imaging, moderate oversight is occasionally needed. This role requires broad technical knowledge, clinical competency, and adherence to radiation safety standards while performing a variety of CT procedures that may occasionally require interpretation or minor deviation from standard practice. The Level II technologist contributes to day-to-day workflow by recognizing issues, making minor adjustments to methods, and communicating information that may require explanation or clarification to patients, peers, or clinical partners. In addition to delivering consistent, high-quality patient care, the Level II technologist may assist with onboarding and guiding entry-level staff, supports departmental objectives, and seeks guidance from senior technologists for more complex situations to ensure optimal imaging outcomes and smooth departmental operations.

Requirements

  • Associate's Degree Required
  • 1-3 years Minimum of 3 years of Medical Imaging experience.
  • BLS-Basic Life Support (BLS/CPR) - AHA - American Heart Association or American Red Cross Required
  • RTR-RT Radiography - ARRT - American Registry of Radiologic Technologists Required
  • RTCT-RT Computed Tomography - ARRT - American Registry of Radiologic Technologists Required
  • Demonstrated knowledge in how to operate CT equipment and related technology.
  • Knowledge of how to address age-specific care needs of patients.
  • Demonstrated technical skill sets in the performance of CT studies.
  • Demonstrable interpersonal skill sets that lead to effective communication and collaborations.
  • Competency in interpreting physician order requests for CT imaging studies.
  • Ability to exercise prudent judgment in selecting and configuring equipment settings to compensate for patient physiologic variances.
  • Ability to consistently produce quality images of various anatomical structures.
  • All job applicants for safety-sensitive positions must pass a pre-employment drug test, once a conditional offer of employment has been made.

Responsibilities

  • Independently performing routine CT exams with consistent image quality, making minor adjustments to positioning, scan range, or reconstruction selections based on patient condition and clinical indication while still adhering to established protocols.
  • Prepares and administers contrast media for patient examinations according to radiologists’ direction.
  • Identifies and resolves routine order or workflow discrepancies.
  • Reviews patient history and exam orders for accuracy and independently resolves routine discrepancies (such as laterality, missing pregnancy status, or incorrect exam sequencing) and escalates only when appropriate.
  • Ensures patient safety, comfort, and personal dignity by following appropriate patient care guidelines to include use of 2 patient identifiers.
  • Uses Radiology Information System (RIS) system to input patient examination data and to place patient orders, when appropriate.
  • Provides guidance to Level I technologists and students on routine tasks.
  • Assists with orienting new or junior staff by demonstrating standard CT procedures, safe contrast practices, and routine workflow expectations while serving as a resource for basic technical questions.
  • Operates, on a day-to-day basis, PACS applications to include: archiving activities; image auto-routing; and pre-fetching tasks; image quality assurance and other related activities.
  • Assists in the maintenance of department inventory by ordering, stocking, and performing inventory checks on those medical supplies utilized when performing CT examinations.
  • Maintains imaging and processing equipment by performing scheduled cleanings and tests; results of all cleanings and tests are documented, as appropriate.
  • Contacts service personnel and notifies supervisory staff of equipment malfunctions.
