About The Position

To perform diagnostic testing by operating Computer Tomography (CT) equipment which produces cross-sectional images of bones, organs, and tissue used to diagnose medical conditions.

Requirements

  • U.S. Citizenship
  • Must pass pre-employment examination.
  • Specialized post-training in Computer Tomography (CT).
  • Background and investigation required.
  • English language proficiency required.
  • All other duties and responsibilities as required by contract.
  • Current Basic Life Support (BL) Certification.
  • Completion of a radiologic technology program accredited by the Joint Revenue Committee of Education in Radiologic Technology (JRCERT), obtained an Associate’s Degree or higher and further received specialized training in Computer Tomography.
  • Certification through the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) is required.
  • Ability to read and communicate effectively in English

  • As a condition of employment with UHealthSolutions, it is a requirement that all employees must be able to gain and maintain Federal Bureau of Prisons, FCC Butner approval for facility access.
  • Appointment is subject to satisfactory completion of urinalysis, physical, and background investigation.
  • All applicants are subject to National Crime Information Center (NCIC) and credit checks.
  • Successful completion of the “Introduction to Correctional Techniques”, three week training course is required.
  • This position has been identified as test designated.
  • Incumbents will be subject to urinalysis testing under the BOP Drug Free Workplace Plan.

Responsibilities

  • Clean, disinfect, and prepare all equipment for use.
  • Review and evaluate developed x-rays, videotape, or computer-generated information to determine if images are satisfactory for diagnostic purposes.
  • Review all applicable requests and patient histories through PACS and BEMR.
  • Consult with Radiologist regarding patient exams and protocols.
  • Position imaging equipment and adjust controls to set exposure time and distance, according to specification of examination.
  • Monitor patient’s condition pre and post imaging to ensure patient safety and comfort.
  • Explain procedures to patient to reduce anxieties and obtain cooperation, to include need for contrast.
  • Prep and assist all patients as needed for the examination.
  • Key commands and data into computer to document and specify scan sequences, adjust transmitters, and receiver, or photograph certain images.
  • Operate or oversee operation of radiologic or magnetic imaging equipment to produce images of the body for diagnostic purposes.
  • Position and immobilize patient for proper examination.
  • Remove and process all film and provide images to the facility in the desire format.
  • Provide follow-up information/ instruction to the patients.
  • Operate independently and without direct supervision when performing examination procedures.
  • Ensure timeliness of all exams as per facility protocol.
  • Maintain all logs and service manuals as required.
  • Assist nursing staff with patient history, instruction, and IV as needed.
  • Coordinate all transport and treatment with other departments and officers as necessary for special patients.
  • Monitor patients for allergic reaction to IV contrast.
  • Maintain, inventory and order all necessary supplies related to CT.
  • Follow quality assurance guidelines and maintain patient confidentiality.
  • Perform equipment quality checks and troubleshoot problems.
  • Ensure service call and notification of pertinent team members as applicable.
  • Maintain a clean environment for all work areas.
  • Perform clerical functions as necessary, including, but not limited to, maintenance and documentation of patient records and/or required forms, assigning accession number, obtaining prior records on patients, providing pre-test information to patients, answering telephone calls, and assisting the Radiologist as needed.
