The position involves performing diagnostic computed tomography (CT) scan images, producing quality CT exam images, and exercising professional judgment in the performance of procedures. The CT Technologist will provide patient care, initiate life support measures as necessary, and interact effectively with patients, physicians, family members, department staff, and healthcare workers. The role requires the ability to operate CT equipment, perform related procedures, and utilize new technology while orienting new employees. The CT Technologist will also work to understand the patient's physical and emotional status and may have expanded responsibilities based on facility needs, including on-call rotations and performing diagnostic radiology procedures.

Responsibilities

  • Perform diagnostic computed tomography (CT) scan images.
  • Produce quality computed tomography exam images.
  • Exercise professional judgment in the performance of procedures.
  • Provide patient care and initiate life support measures as necessary.
  • Interact effectively with patients, physicians, family members, department staff, and healthcare workers.
  • Operate CT equipment to produce quality CT scans.
  • Perform related procedures and protocols.
  • Learn and utilize new technology.
  • Orient new employees.
  • Obtain information from patients or their responsible parties to improve personalized treatment and care.
  • Work with all age groups.
  • Participate in on-call rotation nights, weekends, and holidays as needed.
  • Perform basic diagnostic radiology tasks and be aware of general radiology protocols.
  • May perform mobile imaging, electrocardiogram (EKG), cardiac monitor placement, and dual energy x-ray absorptiometry (DEXA) procedures.

Requirements

  • Satisfactory completion of formal Radiologic Technology training in an AMA approved school or JCERT accredited program.
  • Computerized Tomography (CT) training or experience preferred.
  • ARRT certification is required at the time of hire.
  • CT certification obtained within two years is preferred per DICOE and ACR accreditation requirements.
  • Licensure through the North Dakota Medical Imaging and Radiation Therapy Board is required if working in North Dakota.
  • CT certification is required within 24 months of hire if working in Aberdeen, South Dakota.
  • Permit to practice through the Iowa Department of Public Health is required for technologists working in Iowa.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) and I.V. certification within six weeks of employment and re-certification as necessary is required.
