Requirements

  • Completion of formal training in an approved School of Radiologic Technology required Or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Licensed Radiologic Technologist - current NYS licensure upon hire required and ARRT - American Registry of Radiologic Technologists certification with CE credits upon hire required

Responsibilities

  • Performs CT exams by following and verifying referring providers' orders and remaining in compliance with the Imaging Sciences department and all governing bodies with regular direct supervision or guidance from a more senior technologist.
  • Responsible for performing I-stats, pregnancy tests, starting IV's, scanning patients in a safe and efficient manner, Injecting IV contrast, preparing oral contrast, completing all associated paper and computer work, and discharging the patient from the CT department with appropriate post CT instructions.
  • Identifies patient service requirements.
  • Educates patients/families regarding procedure and/or treatment to be performed.
  • Prepares patient for radiological/CT procedures by positioning patient, adjusts immobilization devices, moves equipment into specified position, and adjusts equipment controls to set exposure factors.
  • Performs procedures by following and verifying referring provider’s orders.
  • Applies learned methodologies according to established policy and procedures.
  • Produces high quality images and prepares/presents them, with other pertinent patient information, for timely interpretation.
  • Prepares and maintains accurate documentation.
  • Maintains production and quality of CT images by following established standards, orders, protocols and procedures.
  • Practices radiation protection techniques (ALARA) using beam restrictive devices, patient shielding, and knowledge of exposure factors and automatic exposure controls.
  • Performs and evaluates equipment quality control measurements.
  • Troubleshoots and notifies appropriate personnel to maintain equipment performance.
  • Maintains a safe environment for patients, personnel, and visitors.
  • Adheres to safety policies.
  • May train new employees or lead day-to-day work activities.
  • Other duties as assigned.
