About The Position

Works under minimal supervision with the physicians to perform CT imaging exams, exam protocols, accreditation, operations, and facilitation of equipment maintenance.

Requirements

  • Associate's Degree in Radiologic Sciences or Graduate from AMA approved school.
  • ARRT-CT Reg Techngst CompTomography Upon Hire.
  • Licensed by Texas Medical Board (TMB) as a Medical Radiologic Technologist Upon Hire.
  • BASIC LIFE SUPPORT Certification, course accredited by the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross (ARC) by first day of employment.

Responsibilities

  • Review physician orders for accuracy, diagnosis, and applicability to selected CT protocol.
  • Screen patients for contrast allergies, contraindications, and appropriateness that would prohibit or modify the CT exam.
  • Communicate with Radiologists to discuss stat/urgent findings.
  • Consult with radiologist to determine appropriate CT exam if modification of a CT protocol is necessary.
  • Document changes as appropriate in electronic health record.
  • Ensure other resources such as nursing, anesthesia, and scheduling are in order.
  • Interview patients, conduct patient screening, and obtain medical history pertaining to procedure's clinical criteria.
  • Explain procedure and instruct patient on necessary requirements needed to provide diagnostic images.
  • Administer intravenous injections of contrast material as appropriate, while observing patients for adverse reactions.
  • Assist the physician as needed in performing procedures.
  • Ensure that images and information are properly documented with patient identification data and appropriate labeling.
  • Utilize technical knowledge and skills to perform procedures accurately and in a timely manner in accordance with age specific criteria.
  • Complete exam charges and image documentation in a timely manner.
  • Perform CT exams ensuring that patient meets radiation safety requirements to ALARA principles.
  • Assist patient in dressing for exam and attend to patient's physical well-being while transporting to and from exam room and positioning for exam.
  • Instruct/communicate with patient and/or patient's family regarding the tests to be performed and evaluate the patient's ability to tolerate.
  • Perform QC testing and report problems with CT system and workstations to the service engineer/biomed.
  • Maintain various QA compliances including ACR requirements and archives.
  • Participate in accreditation imaging requirements.
  • Respond to inquiries/calls/emails in a timely and professional manner.
  • Utilize organizational culture behaviors to include PACT and AIDET.
  • Actively participate in codes and rapid responses.
  • Communicate shift hand off regarding workflow issues with equipment or pending exams with oncoming staff.
  • Engage in equitable distribution of departmental workloads.
  • Provide orientation and training for new hires and students ensuring that procedures are performed according to set standards.
  • Collaborate in the care and service delivery process of patient care through effective communication with other service lines.
  • Prioritize exams with scheduling exams to ensure smooth workflow, minimize wait times and address stat requests.
  • Adhere to hospital policies, procedures, competencies, regulatory compliance, infection control, hospital education, new yearly metrics/department goals, patient satisfaction, and fiscally responsible with regards to equipment, supplies scheduling, overtime, etc.
  • Maintain patient confidentiality (HIPAA) and ensure that all processes and procedures are maintained to secure and protect all workstations in all work areas.
