About The Position

We are going through an exciting period of positive change at RWT as we grow our services and our teams. We hope you will be our next key team member. The CT department at New Cross hospital consists of four scanners, with an additional two scanners at our newly opened Community Diagnostic Centre at Cannock Chase Hospital. You will work alongside an innovative team of professionals, performing a wide range of CT examinations including advanced cardiac and colon scanning. In addition, you will offer support, guidance and training to junior members of staff and trainees, helping develop people and services. We are passionate about providing excellent patient care and as a Senior Radiographer, you will be an integral part of the patients care and journey through Radiology. The post holder will work on a rotation, undertaking radiographic duties in CT scanning. The post holder will administer I.V injections of contrast media to patients. Requirements

  • Degree or equivalent qualification in Diagnostic Radiography.
  • Registered with the HCPC.
  • Ability to work flexibly including weekends, nights and Bank Holidays.
  • Ability to rotate across all sites (New Cross hospital in Wolverhampton and Cannock Chase Hospital in Cannock).
  • Sufficient equipment training and technical knowledge to produce high quality diagnostic images.
  • Competence and training to use all equipment safely and in accordance with operating/manufacturer instructions.
  • Ability to undertake training on the Patient Management System (PMS), the Radiology Information System (RIS) and the Picture Archiving and Communications System (PACS).
  • Familiarity with relevant Health and Safety policies.
  • Ability to participate in Health & Safety risk assessments.
  • Maintain fitness to practice with the Professional Code of Conduct through Continuous Professional Development (CPD) and mandatory training (Fire, Infection Control, Manual Handling, Information Governance and CPR).
  • Knowledge of the Trust’s Complaints Procedure.
  • High level of communication skills to diffuse confrontational situations.
  • Familiarity with and compliance with all appropriate Trust and Radiology Directorate Policies, Procedures and Practices.
  • Familiarity with the principles of clinical governance.
  • Adherence to Risk Management, Health and Safety Regulations, COSHH Regulations, MRI Local Rules and the Ionising Radiation Regulations.

Responsibilities

  • Work on a rotation, undertaking radiographic duties in at least one clinical area – primarily CT scanning.
  • Work flexibly to provide these services including at weekends, nights and Bank Holidays.
  • Ensure that you have sufficient equipment training and technical knowledge to produce high quality diagnostic images.
  • Ensure that you use all equipment safely and in accordance with operating/manufacturer instructions and that you and all staff using equipment are competent and trained to do so.
  • Undertake training on the Patient Management System (PMS), the Radiology Information System (RIS) and the Picture Archiving and Communications System (PACS) to ensure that patient information is stored and retrieved accurately.
  • Participate in the vetting of appropriate referrals in line with radiology authorisation guidelines.
  • Administer I.V injections of contrast media to patients.
  • Work in a multi-disciplinary team and to encourage team development and facilitate the professional development of other personnel – this may include nurses, HCA’s, students, apprentices and other trainees.
  • Ensure a clean, tidy and safe working environment, adhering to the QA and cleaning SOPs in place for each clinical area.
  • Promptly report any equipment failures to the Department Superintendent or the Ergea Helpdesk as appropriate.
  • Report accidents / untoward incidents / hazards to the Superintendent Radiographer as soon as possible, ensuring completion of the Incident Report Form.
  • Undertake any reasonable duty that may arise which will assist the smooth running of the Radiology Service following appropriate discussions.
  • Work flexibly to cover annual leave and sickness absence, working additional sessions as agreed.
  • Maintain fitness to practice with the Professional Code of Conduct through Continuous Professional Development (CPD) and mandatory training (Fire, Infection Control, Manual Handling, Information Governance and CPR).
  • Be familiar with relevant Health and Safety policies.
  • Participate in Health & Safety risk assessments, following appropriate training.
  • Wear the uniform provided and to promote the Radiology Directorate in a positive manner at all times.
  • Identify all risks which have a potential adverse effect on the Trust’s ability to maintain quality of care and the safety of patients, staff and visitors, and for the taking of positive action to eliminate or reduce these risks.
  • Be courteous and helpful towards patients, visitors, staff and to offer a high quality service at all times.
  • Provide first line assistance in the event of a patient’s query or complaint and passing the matter to a more senior member of staff where appropriate.
  • Assist in the training of new members of staff, supporting them through their induction programme.
  • Participate in practical and theoretical training for Student Radiographers, Assistant Practitioners and Imaging Assistants and to complete any paperwork or assessments associated with this training.
  • Supervise the work and standards of Radiographers, Assistant Practitioners, Apprentice Radiographers and Imaging Assistants.
  • Assist with administrative tasks.
  • Be familiar with and comply with all appropriate Trust and Radiology Directorate Policies, Procedures and Practices, making suggestions which could lead to improvements in the service.
  • Attend courses/lectures/in-service training as required by the needs of the service and of this post.
  • Ensure that Risk Management, Health and Safety Regulations, COSHH Regulations, MRI Local Rules and the Ionising Radiation Regulations are adhered to, including the Local Rules, and to report accidents/untoward incidents/hazards to the Superintendent or most senior Radiographer on duty as soon as is practicable.
  • Be familiar with and uphold the quality standards of the Trust and Radiology Directorate, to ensure a high quality service to patients at all times.
  • Be familiar with the principles of clinical governance and to strive to maintain and improve the quality of patient care, showing courtesy and consideration at all times.
  • Be familiar with and comply with all Trust and Radiology Directorate Policies, Procedures and Practices and to ensure adherence by more junior staff working within the team.
  • Assist in the collection of any information required for audit purposes.
  • Attend and participate in clinical governance meetings.
  • Be subject to annual appraisal.
