About The Position

This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit, charitable organization committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility. The City of Spokane Valley Maintenance Lead oversees day-to-day operations, maintenance, and safety of managed City of Spokane Valley pool areas to comply with safety and health regulations (mid-April through mid-October), and, in the Off-Season Facilities Floater role, supports Y maintenance operations in the offseason (mid-October through mid-April). The City of Spokane Valley Maintenance Lead and Off-Season Facilities Floater promotes safety and efficiency at managed locations to deliver exceptional experiences for all staff and visitors. Requirements

  • Familiar with all job safety requirements such as PPE and Lock Out Tag Out (LOTO).
  • Familiarity with direct digital controls for building management systems.
  • Knowledge of pool water chemistry, filtration systems, general pool equipment maintenance, and health and safety regulations related to pool operations.
  • Ability to perform basic plumbing, electrical, and mechanical repairs.
  • Possess a valid driver’s license and meet all requirements of the YMCA Driver Policy.
  • Basic computer skills, including experience with Outlook and Excel, and ability to be trained on the Facilities Management system.
  • Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong communication and time-management skills.
  • Completion of YMCA required trainings upon hire
  • Ability to develop positive, authentic relationships with people from different backgrounds

Nice To Haves

  • Two-year technical program in HVAC or comparable program preferred.
  • Three years in a like facility or building maintenance preferred
  • One specialized certification: Certified Pool Operator, Aquatics Facility Operator, Low Pressure Boiler Operator, or other applicable professional certification preferred.
  • If not currently certified, will be trained and certified upon hire

Responsibilities

  • Perform routine maintenance tasks including, but not limited to cleaning, chemical treatments, water testing, inspection of pool equipment (pumps, filters, heaters, etc.), locker rooms, pool building and grounds.
  • Make recommendations for improvements or repairs, and reports maintenance and safety issues to the Association Facilities Executive promptly.
  • Maintain and restock inventory of pool chemicals, cleaning supplies, and equipment to ensure consistent and safe pool service.
  • Maintain accurate records and upkeep of work orders using Asset Essentials management system.
  • Assist the Association Facilities Executive in the coordination of outside contractors and vendors.
  • Follows all safety, emergency, and child abuse prevention policies, procedures, and standards established by the law, state licensing and the Y. Reports and maintain proper documentation of incidents/accidents as they occur.
  • Manage and maintain all aspects of daily outdoor pool operations, including water treatment, equipment functionality, and opening/closing procedures.
  • Lead seasonal opening and closing of outdoor pools and property.
  • Ensure outdoor pool areas meet local, state, and federal safety and health standards, conducting regular safety checks as necessary.
  • Maintain records of outdoor pool inspection, water quality tests, and any maintenance or repairs, and provide to Association Facilities Executive as requested.
  • Ensure City of Spokane Valley Aquatics staff adhere to safety, operational, and customer service standards.
  • Serve in a floater role, providing indoor pool maintenance and building and grounds coverage as needed across multiple Association facilities.
  • Perform off-season cleaning, upkeep, and preventative maintenance at indoor pools, buildings, and grounds.
  • Complete indoor pool and facilities projects as assigned by Association Facilities Executive.
  • Transport pool equipment, supplies, and materials to and between indoor locations as needed.
