About The Position

The Exhibits Assistant supports the daily operations, maintenance, and ongoing management of interactive exhibits across the CSU Spur campus. This role ensures exhibits are functional, up-to-date, and engaging for visitors by assisting with routine maintenance, troubleshooting, content updates, data collection, and coordination with internal teams and external partners. The position also supports exhibit interpretation and integration into preK-12 educational programming, helping maintain high-quality, accessible visitor experiences while enabling the Exhibits and Education teams to advance new exhibit development and campus priorities. Description of Work Unit The Colorado State University (CSU) System, along with its partners, has developed a unique and exciting public facility called CSU Spur at the National Western Center in Denver, Colorado. The CSU Spur campus houses three buildings focused on water, food and agriculture, human and animal health, and sustainability. Within the Spur buildings, CSU conducts research and convenes experts from around the globe; students of all ages engage with science and have opportunities for exploratory learning, transforming their thinking about food, water, and health, and the careers available in these fields; and partners join in programming the space and bringing evolving content to the year-round campus. Requirements

  • Minimum of a High School Diploma (or GED)
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Good communication skills for interacting with diverse, multigenerational audiences including children, and families.
  • Familiar with Microsoft Office (PowerPoint, Outlook, Word, Excel).

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution in museum studies, education, environmental education, family engagement, biological sciences, hydrology, or agriculture.
  • Experience in museum exhibit design, maintenance, or interpretation.
  • Technical aptitude for managing interactive digital or mechanical exhibits.
  • Ability to take initiative by utilizing critical thinking and problem-solving skills to identify solutions for customer needs.
  • 2+ years experience working with children, families, and multigenerational audiences, which may include working in schools, informal education, or customer service.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Demonstrated experience delivering exceptional customer service to internal and external customers.
  • Ability to communicate with program constituents in both Spanish and English.
  • Familiar with scientific concepts surrounding food, water, and environmental health.
  • Passion and excitement for connecting visitors to food, water, and health.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain and troubleshoot interactive exhibits and installations by performing daily operational checks, diagnosing technical or mechanical issues, coordinating basic repairs, and escalating complex maintenance needs to ensure exhibits remain safe, functional, and visitor-ready.
  • Implement exhibit content updates and rotations by coordinating with internal teams and external partners to update digital or interpretive content, and ensure exhibits accurately reflect current CSU research and campus priorities.
  • Monitor and document exhibit condition and performance by tracking wear and tear, functionality issues, and visitor interaction patterns; maintaining maintenance logs and documentation to support timely repairs, reporting, and long-term exhibit planning.
  • Support exhibit integration into public programming and preK-12 educational experiences by developing and facilitating programming connecting audiences to the themes in the exhibits.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned in support of exhibit operations, documentation, training support, visitor engagement, and general campus readiness.
