CST Peer Support Specialist – Greenville, NC Pathways to Life, Inc. is seeking a Certified Community Support Team (CST) Peer Support Specialist to provide person-centered, recovery-oriented behavioral health services to adults in the community in Greenville, North Carolina . This role is ideal for individuals with lived mental health recovery experience who are passionate about peer support, community-based services, and helping individuals build independence, stability, and long-term wellness. The CST Peer Support Specialist plays a critical role in direct service delivery , collaborating with licensed clinicians, CST Qualified Professionals, and community partners to support each member’s Person-Centered Plan and promote engagement, skill development, and successful community integration. Position Summary The CST Peer Support Specialist provides person-centered, recovery-focused peer support services to members in the community. Using lived experience and specialized Peer Support training, this role models recovery, promotes self-sufficiency, and assists members in developing the skills necessary for improved quality of life and sustained stability. The Peer Support Specialist works collaboratively with CST Qualified Professionals (QPs), the Team Lead, Licensed Professionals, and community partners to support each member’s Person-Centered Plan , ensuring coordinated, strengths-based, and recovery-driven care.

Requirements

  • NC Certified Peer Support Specialist (CPSS) credential
  • Lived experience in recovery from mental health and/or substance use challenges.
  • Valid driver’s license, clean driving record, and reliable transportation.
  • Ability to maintain professional boundaries and model recovery-oriented behavior.
  • Strong communication and documentation skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working in community-based behavioral health services.
  • Familiarity with MCO requirements (Vaya, Partners, Trillium, etc.).
  • Comfort using EHR systems

Responsibilities

  • Provide recovery-oriented, peer support services in accordance with CST service definitions, program requirements, and best practices.
  • Utilize lived experience to build rapport, model recovery, instill hope, and promote member empowerment and self-advocacy.
  • Assist members with coping strategies, daily living skills, wellness goals, and recovery planning to support stability and independence.
  • Support members in accessing community resources, benefits, natural supports, housing, employment, and other community-based services.
  • Participate in the development, implementation, and monitoring of Person-Centered Plans, contributing peer perspective to treatment planning.
  • Provide crisis support and de-escalation as needed, including appropriate linkage to clinical or emergency services in collaboration with the CST team.
  • Accompany members in community settings (e.g., appointments, skill-building activities) to promote engagement, independence, and successful outcomes.
  • Maintain timely, accurate, and compliant documentation in accordance with agency policies and MCO/Medicaid standards.
  • Collaborate with CST Qualified Professionals, Licensed Professionals, Team Leads, and community partners to monitor progress, identify barriers, and adjust interventions.
  • Participate in team meetings, supervision, and ongoing training while maintaining professional boundaries, confidentiality, and ethical conduct at all times.
