Responsibilities

  • Demonstrates an understanding of and adherence to the HMHD Compliance Plan.

  • Attends the required corporate integrity and compliance training and education programs.
  • Demonstrates proficiency in understanding the materials presented during the corporate integrity and compliance training and education program.
  • Complies with all HIPAA standards.
  • Positions patient according to surgeon's instructions.
  • Discusses with anesthesia to assure pressure points are padded and circulation is not impaired.
  • Consistently demonstrates proper use of fracture tables, head stabilizers, body stabilizers, C-arm extensions etc.
  • Provide visualization of the operative site by: appropriately placing retractors; packing with sponges; digital manipulation of tissue; suction, irrigating or sponging; manipulating suture materials and proper positioning of self to avoid interfering with surgeon's view.
  • Utilizes appropriate techniques to assist with hemostasis. Permanent techniques include: clamping or cauterizing vessels; tying and or ligating; applying hemostatic clips or placing hemostatic agents. Temporary techniques include: applying tourniquets and demonstrating awareness of indications; applying vessel loops, applying non crushing clamps, applying direct digital pressure.
  • Utilizes appropriate techniques to assist with closure of body planes by: utilizing running or interrupted subcutaneous sutures with or without closure strips; closing skin with method indicated b surgeon, postoperative subcutaneous injection as directed by surgeon; liquid or spray occlusive materials; absorbent material affixed with tape or circumferential wrapping; and immobilizing dressing.
  • Serves as a role model/ preceptor for new employees and students by taking initiative to implement change; conduct self in professional effective manner.
  • Consistentl demonstrates an ability to assess situations, consider alternatives and choose the appropriate couse of action.
  • Strives to recognize and evaluate personal strengths and weaknesses; handles personal and professional frustrations appropriately.
  • Competent in opening sterile supplies and prepaation of sterile fields including instrument set up and location and care of all surgical equipment.
  • Anticipate the needs of the surgeon in passing instruments and supplies in surgical procedures.
  • Assists in the preparation and draping of the patient in the operative area.
  • Follows the hospital standards of surgical counts.
  • Demonstrates a thorough knowledge of sterilization procedures including care of instruments, cleaning packaging of equipment and supplies and chemical and biological monitoring.
  • Is willing to float to OB as needed.
  • Invest of self in others to ensure their success.
