About The Position

The Sterile Processing Instrument Technician is responsible for the cleaning, sterilization, distribution, and recording of patient reusable supplies and equipment and the decontamination and assembly of instruments for the OR and throughout the hospital and Mercy Family clinics. The Sterile Processing Instrument Technician is responsible for the OR case carts being properly setup and assures that all the instruments necessary to do the procedure are on the cart, ready for surgical use. The Sterile Processing Instrument Tech is responsible under the direction of a specific OR clinical leader in a specific area for instrument inventory, ordering, vendor and repair of instruments.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Interest in continuing education.
• Preferred CRCST (Certified Registered Central Supply Tech) Certificate after the 2nd year of employment.
• Preferred CST (Certified Surgical Tech) Certificate will be accepted.
• Ability to work within a confined area and in close proximity to fellow employees.
• Adaptability to learn new instruments and table setups as required by surgical procedure.
• Detail-oriented individual regarding work.
• Ability to meet the department 'on call' demands.

Responsibilities

• Cleaning, sterilization, distribution, and recording of patient reusable supplies and equipment.
• Decontamination and assembly of instruments for the OR and throughout the hospital.
• Ensuring OR case carts are properly setup with all necessary instruments for surgical procedures.
• Managing instrument inventory, ordering, and vendor relations under the direction of an OR clinical leader.
