About The Position

To provide for the safety and welfare of students in designated school crossing areas while in transit to and/or from school; and to communicate observations and/or incidents that may impact the general well-being of students.

Requirements

High School education or equivalent required
Knowledge of traffic safety rules and school policies and procedures
Models the attributes and skills of the MPS Portrait of a Graduate
Demonstrates commitment to the MPS Promise that every student is known by name, served by strength and need, and graduates ready for college, career and community
Ability to work well with students, staff and parents
Ability to communicate effectively (verbal and written) with students, parents and staff
Ability to instruct students, parents, staff, etc. in proper and safe crosswalk practices
Ability to lift and/or move speed zone and crossing signs for proper placement
Ability to adhere to and enforce safe crosswalk practices

Responsibilities

Supervise the safe crossing of school children in designated crossing areas
Assist students, parents, and staff, etc. to provide safe access to and from school
Communicate to students, parents, staff and visitors to ensure their understanding of school policies and enforcement procedures
Report observation and/or incidents relating to students to appropriate school personnel
Respond to emergency situations to address immediate safety concerns
Wear orange safety vest and carry MPS issued, red hand-held sign to guide students, parents, staff, etc. through crossing area
Place and remove school crossing and traffic control signs to notify motorists of school pedestrian crossing
Regular on time attendance required
Assists with other assigned duties as appropriate to the area of assignment and Mesa Public Schools
