About The Position

Crossing Guards play a vital role in ensuring the safety of students as they cross intersections on their way to school. This position is essential for public safety, particularly during school hours, and involves monitoring and assisting children at designated crossing points. The City of Somerville provides uniforms and training to all Crossing Guards, ensuring they are well-prepared for their responsibilities. The work schedule consists of two hours each school day, with morning hours from 07:15 AM to 08:30 AM and afternoon hours from 2:30 PM to 3:15 PM, totaling 10 hours per week. This position is classified as safety-sensitive, meaning that it requires a high level of attention and responsibility to ensure the safety of children. As such, candidates must pass a pre-employment drug screening and physical examination prior to employment. In addition to the essential duties of the role, there are several benefits associated with being a Crossing Guard in Somerville. Employees can earn a referral bonus of $50 for referring new hires to the City, as well as an annual perfect attendance bonus of up to $350. While this position is not eligible for traditional benefits due to the limited hours, it offers a competitive hourly wage of $24.00.
