About The Position

The Crossing Guard position at Murrieta Valley Unified School District involves providing safety for students crossing designated roadways. Under the direct supervision of the school principal or designee, the Crossing Guard is responsible for safely escorting students across roadways in an efficient and effective manner. The role requires knowledge of roadway safety practices, traffic safety regulations, and emergency assistance procedures, as well as the ability to maintain cooperation with motorists and supervise children effectively.

Requirements

• Education equivalent to the completion of the twelfth (12th) grade.
• One (1) year of paid or volunteer experience working with children in an educational or child care setting.
• A good work history and attendance.
• Knowledge of roadway safety practices and traffic safety regulations.
• Ability to inform school children of proper safety methods and maintain cooperation with motorists.
• Demonstrate an understanding, patient, warm, and receptive attitude toward children.

Nice To Haves

• Spanish language skills strongly desired.
• First Aid Certificate and CPR certification desired.

Responsibilities

• Observe traffic flow and halt traffic effectively.
• Safely escort school children across the roadway until all children have reached a place of safety.
• Inform students of proper safety methods and ensure they observe all safety precautions.
• Submit essential evidence to authorities when motorists violate school crossing regulations.
• Report actions of suspicious characters at or near crossing locations.
• Report disturbances, accidents, and emergencies immediately to the school office.
• Complete student referrals for violations of school and district rules.
• Follow District policies and procedures.
• Participate in District in-service training as required.
• Perform other related duties as required.
