About The Position

1. Implement an irrigation and fertilization program. 2. Scout and monitor all orchard crops and other crops at the Crops Units for pests and signs and symptoms of pest damage and abiotic disorders. Record all monitoring activity and discuss/seek input on appropriate management recourse. 3. Supervise and train student assistants who work at the Crops Units, including providing safety and food safety training, and feedback on student job performance. 4. Assist faculty/staff with training and supervising student assistants in crop production. Use organizational and time-management skills to schedule work activities related to the Crops Unit. 5. Follow all risk management SOPs developed by the department, college or university. 6. Set up equipment for class and lab use. 7. Assist department or college faculty/staff in regular maintenance of cropping and system equipment. 8. Develop and regularly update equipment inventory lists (with Excel and/or Word computer programs or web-based interfaces), purchase needed items in a timely manner for production and class purposes.

Requirements

  • Three years of progressively responsible experience in the production of field, garden, vegetable or specialty crops (orchards, vineyards, feed crops, etc.).
  • Equivalent to 60 semester or 90 quarter units of academic work at a recognized college or university, including agriculture and science courses applicable to the production of general field and specialty crops. (Additional specialized experience which has demonstrated that the applicant has acquired and successfully applied the knowledges and abilities shown above may be substituted for the required education on the basis of one year of experience for each 30 semester or 45 quarter units of accredited college work.)
