About The Position

A Crop Specialist plays a vital role in advising and supporting agricultural customers to optimize crop production, improve soil health, and maximize yield efficiency. The specialist works closely with customers to recommend best practices in crop management, fertilization, pest control, irrigation, and seed selection, using their expertise in agronomy and agricultural sciences.

Requirements

  • Degree in Agronomy, Crop Science, or a related field.
  • Obtain a valid CDL (Commercial Driver's License) with required endorsements (e.g., HazMat, Tanker) within six months of employment and maintain a clean driving record.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain applicable professional certifications associated with the agronomy industry. (i.e., CCA, CCS, CPA, Commercial Applicator w/applicable categories)
  • In-depth knowledge of crop physiology, soil science, pest control, and nutrient management.
  • Experience with agricultural technology and precision farming tools.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and agronomy software.
  • Basic understanding of agronomic principles and practices.
  • Physical ability to perform fieldwork and operate equipment.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret data and make recommendations.
  • Attention to detail and strong organizational skills.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to make data-driven decisions.
  • Excellent communication skills to effectively advise customers.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple customers.
  • High level of integrity and ability to handle confidential information.

Responsibilities

  • Provide expert advice on crop selection, planting schedules, and cultivation techniques to maximize yield and improve crop quality.
  • Conduct soil testing and analysis to determine nutrient deficiencies and recommend appropriate fertilizers or soil amendments.
  • Monitor crops for pests, diseases, and weeds; recommend integrated pest management (IPM) strategies, including chemical and biological treatments.
  • Advise on the use of sustainable and environmentally friendly farming techniques, including precision agriculture, crop rotation, and water conservation.
  • Stay current on the latest advancements in agronomy, crop science, and agricultural technologies. Share new findings with customers to improve farming outcomes.
  • Utilize precision agriculture tools, satellite imaging, and other technologies to provide data-driven insights for crop production.
  • Conduct on-site visits, training sessions, and workshops for customers to ensure the adoption of best practices in agronomy and crop management.
