Job Description Are you looking for your next opportunity? Sompo has a unique opportunity for a Crop Insurance Underwriter Assistant in our Underwriting Department. In this role, you’ll support the Underwriting team with tasks such as processing applications, production reports, and acreage reports, conducting research, managing scanning operations, and continually delivering outstanding client service. Our business, your impact, our opportunity: What you’ll be doing: Support underwriters by assisting with the review and processing of applications, production reports, and acreage reports. Organize and maintain records by scanning, uploading, and accurately identifying documentation in processing systems. Provide excellent customer service by responding to inquiries, assisting with requests, and ensuring a positive and professional experience. Communicate with agents to clarify or correct any discrepancies in provided information. Review existing coverage amounts to determine appropriate benefit levels. Verify and ensure policy forms comply with Risk Management Agency (RMA) guidelines. Perform accurate and timely data entry tasks as needed. Research and resolve underwriting-related inquiries. Analyze applications and documentation to identify areas requiring additional research. Participate in other tasks and responsibilities as assigned. Receive ongoing feedback and coaching to enhance research skills, timeliness, and professional attitude, while building adaptability and initiative to manage new tasks, changes, and diverse teams or systems.

Requirements

  • High school diploma (or equivalent) required
  • 0–3 years of related experience preferred
  • Strong problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work well in a team environment
  • Basic knowledge of administrative and office tasks
  • Proficiency with computers, including Microsoft Office
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Comfortable interacting with people at all levels, both inside and outside the organization
  • Good time management, organization, and project management skills
  • Detail-oriented with a strong customer service mindset
  • Able to manage multiple projects while maintaining a positive and professional attitude
  • Sedentary work: Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body. Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time.
  • Ability to stand or sit constantly/continuously.
  • Hearing: Perceiving the nature of sounds at normal speaking levels with or without correction. Ability to receive detailed information through oral communication, and to make the discriminations in sound.
  • Visual: The employee is required to have close visual acuity to perform an activity such as: preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; viewing a computer terminal; extensive reading; visual inspection involving small defects, small parts, and/or operation of machines (including inspection); using measurement devices; and/or assembly or fabrication parts at distances close to the eyes.
