This job works administers anesthesia to patients during the performance of surgical, obstetrical and other pain producing clinical procedures under the supervision of a physician. Works in a collaborative model including but not limited to residents, fellows, attendings, and staff who care for patients. Requirements

  • Education Required – Master’s degree from a school of nurse anesthesia accredited by the American Association of Nurse Anesthetists (AANA).
  • Work Experience Required - None.
  • Certifications Required – License as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) in the state of practice.
  • Certification through the American Association of Nurse Anesthetists (AANA).
  • Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) Certification from the American Heart Association.
  • Knowledge Skills and Abilities (KSAs) Computer skills and dexterity for data entry and retrieval of patient information.
  • Proficient with Windows-style applications and keyboard.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills and the ability to present information clearly and professionally to varying levels of individuals throughout the patient care process.
  • Ability to work a flexible work schedule (e.g. 24/7, weekend, holiday, on call availability).

Responsibilities

  • Documents patient procedures and incidents.
  • Assesses patient before, during, and after administering anesthesia.
  • Ensures patient safety and administers anesthesia following accepted practice techniques.
  • Acts as a liaison to surgeons, anesthesiologists, co-workers, patients, and families.
  • Participates in department quality assurance initiatives and activities of professional development.
  • Adapts behavior to the specific patient population, including but not limited to: respect for privacy, method of introduction to the patient, adapting explanation of services or procedures to be performed, requesting permissions and communication style.
  • Performs other related duties as required.
