About The Position

A certified registered nurse anesthetist (CRNA) is a medical professional who is authorized to administer anesthesia to patients and attend to their care prior to, during and after surgical procedures. The nurse anesthetist reviews patients' medical history, conducts a physical examination, forms a plan of care in collaboration with the anesthesiologist or supervising physician and educates patients on the anesthetic process prior to their procedure. Anesthesia care is provided for patients in the surgical suites, endoscopy/GI suites, radiology special procedures, cardiology lab, emergency room and labor and delivery suites.

Requirements

• Graduate from an approved school of nursing.
• Hold current registration by state licensing authorities as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse in West Virginia.
• Graduate from an approved program of nurse anesthesia accredited by the council on accreditation of nurse anesthesia educational programs/schools.
• Successfully pass certification examination required for eligibility to perform anesthetic procedures.
• Renew certification every two years.
• Maintain current BLS, ACLS, NRP, and PALS certification.

Responsibilities

• Administer anesthesia to patients before, during, and after surgical procedures.
• Review patients' medical history and conduct physical examinations.
• Formulate a plan of care in collaboration with anesthesiologists or supervising physicians.
• Educate patients on the anesthetic process prior to their procedures.
• Provide anesthesia care in various settings including surgical suites, endoscopy/GI suites, radiology special procedures, cardiology lab, emergency room, and labor and delivery suites.
