Purpose: The Senior Certified Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA) is a member of the healthcare team model and serves a role model of nurse anesthesia practice by serving as a recognized leader in evidence-based practices, clinical expertise, and mentorship. The Senior CRNA is responsible to set the standards for the level and quality of care administered for complex surgical cases and high patient acuity, in cooperation with the supervising or medically directing physician under the standards of the Department of Anesthesiology and in accordance with hospital policies and procedures. The Senior CRNA identifies opportunities for clinical quality as well as workplace improvement and applies evidence-based practice as a routine aspect of professional practice. Serves on or leads teams in Quality improvement and clinical education. Demonstrates a passion for developing others, enthusiastically and expertly precepting student nurse anesthetists, new hires, and other disciplines, continuously supporting learning in the clinical arena by developing educational resources, participating as a site coordinator, SRNA program adjunct faculty, presenting at conferences, Demonstrates leadership qualities with a commitment to the community and nurse anesthesia profession to enhance patient care and clinical outcomes.Continuously seeks opportunities for professional development by seeking feedback and professional practice growth and serves as a model of team participation.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited CRNA program
  • Ability to acquire a license to practice in Pennsylvania
  • Must obtain valid federal and state narcotics certificates
  • Commitment to providing high-quality, compassionate care
  • Comfortable with a wide variety of cases
  • Graduate of an accredited nurse anesthesia education program required.
  • Knowledgeable regarding controlled substance policies in accordance with Federal and State laws required.
  • Current licensure as a Registered Nurse in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania required.
  • Board Certified, Recertified, or eligible by the National Board Certification Council on Certification of Nurse Anesthetists required.
  • Current AHA -approved CPR certification required.
  • AHA -approved ACLS/PALS certifications as required by institution of employ upon hire.
  • Act 33,34, 73 Clearances.
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) OR Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)
  • Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA)
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS)
  • Registered Nurse (RN)
  • Act 31 Child Abuse Reporting with renewal
  • Act 33 with renewal
  • Act 34 with renewal
  • Act 73 FBI Clearance with renewal
  • Current licensure either in the state where the facility is located or, if the facility is in a state covered by the multistate Nursing Licensure Compact (NLC) agreement, a multistate license issued by a participating NLC state. Hires and current employees working on an out-of-state NLC license who later change their residency to the state where the facility is also located will have 60 days upon changing their residency to apply for licensure within that state.
  • This position is dependent upon successful attainment and maintenance of hospital privileges.

Responsibilities

  • Frequently exceeds the expected standards of the CRNA Career Ladder in the following categories Clinical Practice, Clinical Education, Clinical Leadership, and Professional Development upon meeting eligibility requirements of established career ladder program. Demonstrates high degree of initiative and achievement in career ladder categories. Work done frequently exceeds the quantity and quality standard in areas listed below on a consistent basis.   • Demonstrates high degree of initiative to excel in career ladder categories.
  • Work frequently exceeds the quantity and quality standards in areas of responsibility on a consistent basis.
  • Administers anesthesia and anesthesia-related care in four general categories: (1) pre-anesthetic preparation and evaluation; (2) anesthesia induction, maintenance, and emergence, (3) post-anesthesia care, and (4) peri-anesthesia clinical support functions.
  • Performs according to established policies, procedures, and regulatory standards. Review appropriate documentation for informed consent and identify appropriate surgical site with operating room staff and surgeon in accordance with departmental and regulatory compliance standards. Participates in the Quality Improvement (QI) process through case documentation, incident reporting, evaluation, education, and implementation of the QI plan.
  • Assists with the teaching and evaluation of newly hired CRNAs, GRNAs, and functions as a clinical preceptor to SRNAs in the perioperative setting.
