Overview Omega Technical Services is seeking a highly motivated Criticality Safety Advisory Engineer to support ongoing operations in Aiken, SC. This position plays a vital role in advancing critical mission objectives within a highly regulated and technically demanding environment. Requirements

  • Candidate must be a U.S. Citizen.
  • Satisfactory results of a pre-employment screening, which includes a drug and breath alcohol test, along with a Motor Vehicle Record check.
  • Candidate must be able to obtain and maintain a DOE Security Clearance.
  • Candidate must demonstrate a minimum of 25 years of recent experience in the nuclear/criticality safety industry through support of the Department of Energy (DOE) or the commercial nuclear industry. Alternate combination of education and experience will be considered where candidate has an advance degree.
  • Previous experience with the use and implementation of 10 CFR 830, DOE O 420.1C, and related directives and standards is required.
  • Candidate must demonstrate personal accountability for facility/project schedules, deadlines, budgets, and the safe performance of work; and proficiency in performing Criticality Safety Program assessments.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in the use of a criticality safety code (MCNP or SCALE) is required.

Nice To Haves

  • Possession of an active DOE/DoD clearance within the past two (2) years is preferred.
  • Previous DOE/NNSA work experience.
  • Previous experience in developing, reviewing, and maintaining SRS criticality safety documents is preferred.
  • Demonstrated previous SRS nuclear and criticality safety engineering experience and qualifications is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Initiate own technical programs and make recommendations to management on technical programs based on analysis of customer needs and technology trends, reach solutions to the most complex technical problems in field(s) of expertise and to influence solutions in neighboring disciplines.
  • Apply technical experience in field of specialization or broad-based experience in multiple technical fields, and use other technical resources in the company and external resources, to resolve complex problems.
  • Incorporate advanced technical practices and a variety of complex features such as complicated technical requirements, application of new or special materials or processes and difficult coordination or oversight requirements into problem solving and program planning.
  • Provide leadership in determining solutions to complex problems and is recognized as having expertise in a functional area of technical specialization.
  • Recommend research programs for others in group and assist in that planning.
  • Develop solutions to the most complex technical problems in areas of expertise and in adjacent technical fields, Influence technical direction of other parts of the department, acts as a technical communicator across disciplines to optimize the creative solution of technical problems.
  • Conceive needed programs for self and for others in the department. Put needs in perspective with regard to other technical needs at SRNS. Sponsor new ideas in the department
  • Prepare plans including schedules, budgets and personnel requirements for solving major technical tasks for division. Develop schedules, monitor progress, monitor expenditures of budget and review quality of work performed. Include research, development, testing, quality assurance requirements.
  • Communicate results verbally and in manuscripts form. Report regularly the results and represent SRNS and SRS in technical areas to oversight groups and professional societies. Mentor less senior professionals in communication skills.
  • Maintain excellent technical credibility by contributing significantly toward meeting Site missions and goals which may be demonstrated by issuing reports, making presentations, and /or involvement in national technical organizations. Mentor less senior professionals as a means of transferring technical knowledge and insight.
  • Recommend engineering and technology research, development and application programs for others and assist in the planning of such programs.
  • Demonstrate commitment to TQ concepts by active leadership leading to successful implementation of Division and Department TQ Initiatives. Be a resource for TQ initiatives in Department and Division.
  • Support the SRNS Nuclear & Criticality Safety Engineering organization in the development, review, and implementation of criticality safety documentation for various facilities at the Savannah River Site.
  • Provide technical assistance in developing criticality safety documents and analyses, criticality safety controls, and related technical support documentation.
  • Ensure that the development of criticality safety documentation complies with requirements and as necessary, and applicable controls are implemented in field procedures.
  • Conduct Criticality Safety Program assessments and maintain program manuals.
  • Lead and direct junior staff in coordinating efforts to complete complex activities.
  • Mentor and train new criticality safety engineers.
