Critical Environments Operating Engineer – JLL What this job involves: The Critical Environments Operating Engineer delivers best practice systems and problem resolution across all data center electrical and mechanical infrastructure, including UPS systems, MV electrical systems, generators, and cooling systems. This role is essential to maintaining 100% uptime for mission-critical facilities, ensuring the seamless operation of infrastructure that keeps the digital world running. You'll work with cutting-edge technology in a fast-growing industry while directly contributing to JLL's reputation for operational excellence in critical environments, with clear opportunities for career advancement in critical infrastructure management.

Requirements

  • Minimum 2+ years of experience working in data center or critical facility environments
  • Hands-on experience with building systems including UPS systems, emergency generators, and switchgears
  • Demonstrated verbal and written communication skills for effective team collaboration and reporting
  • Working knowledge of computer applications including MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook), Google Suite, and CMMS systems
  • Physical ability to lift minimum 50 lbs, climb ladders up to 30 ft with 300-lb weight limit, and work from heights
  • Flexibility to work different schedules, holidays, and respond to emergency situations
  • Ability to walk large campus-like settings and navigate rooftops to access equipment

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with Corrigo CMMS platform
  • Universal EPA 608 certification for refrigerant handling
  • NFPA 70E electrical safety training certification
  • Knowledge of hazardous materials storage, usage, and disposal procedures
  • Experience in incident and event management for critical systems
  • Background in analyzing complex mechanical and electrical system operations
  • Familiarity with emergency escalation procedures in mission-critical environments

Responsibilities

  • Maintain, monitor, and perform preventive maintenance on all building systems including fire/life safety, HVAC, chillers, CRAC/CRAH units, plumbing, and controls to ensure 100% uptime
  • Operate and maintain electrical systems including UPS, ATS, STS, PDU, generators, primary switchgear, power distribution, and transformers
  • Monitor, adjust, and maintain refrigeration, chilled water, air conditioning equipment, boilers, ventilating systems, water heaters, pumps, valves, and filters
  • Record system readings and make necessary adjustments to ensure proper equipment operation and performance
  • Analyze various system operations, determine causes of problems or malfunctions, and implement corrective actions
  • Manage work orders through CMMS, coordinate vendor management activities, and handle customer-facing tickets
  • Respond to site emergencies and comply with emergency escalation procedures while maintaining critical system integrity
