About The Position

The Critical Environment Electrical Engineer at Microsoft plays a vital role in delivering core infrastructure and foundational technologies for Microsoft's cloud services. This position is part of the Cloud Operations & Innovation (CO+I) team, which focuses on personal and professional development, environmental sustainability, and optimization in datacenter design and operations. The engineer will work on various engineering tasks, including design, testing, verification, and project implementation, contributing to the support of services for over 1 billion customers worldwide.

Requirements

  • 6+ years of technical engineering experience OR a Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or related field AND 2+ years of technical engineering experience OR a Master's degree in Electrical Engineering or related field AND 1+ year of technical engineering experience.
  • Ability to meet Microsoft, customer, and/or government security screening requirements.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related field AND 5+ years of technical engineering experience OR a Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related field AND 3+ years of technical engineering experience.
  • Experience related to substations (medium and high voltage).
  • A Professional Engineer (PE) License.
  • Experience with electrical design of mission-critical facilities or similar large systems.

Responsibilities

  • Design and develop knowledge of industry trends and customer experience.
  • Consult with other engineers to apply advanced concepts in electrical engineering.
  • Assist in creating and executing designs and verification plans for electrical engineering aspects of products.
  • Participate in creating intellectual property and may file patents.
  • Implement known solutions to common technical challenges with guidance.
  • Read and interpret device specification sheets for hardware features.
  • Develop design documentation including drawings and specifications with guidance.
  • Review technical sheets for parts and select appropriate components for product development.
  • Ensure test requirements are included in documentation for features or products.
  • Determine appropriate test equipment for measuring product features with minimal supervision.
  • Write design verification test cases and develop test plans for standard features.
  • Assist in developing automated testing solutions and conduct automated testing.
  • Gather data for external testing supplier selection options and assist in setting up testing environments.
  • Participate in developing dashboards or reports for testing and quality metrics.
  • Analyze data and identify common problems affecting product design changes.
  • Assist in developing basic test fixtures for validation of new product features.
  • Follow project implementation schedules and escalate issues as necessary.
  • Research new tools and technologies for project implementation and provide reports.
  • Communicate project progress and escalate issues as necessary.
  • Follow procedures to create detailed reports and functional specifications for product features.
  • Document essential details about materials and components for devices.
