About The Position

The Critical Care Technician in the Intermediate Care Unit at Capital Health is responsible for providing essential patient care and support under the direction of registered nurses. This role involves ensuring patient safety, assisting with personal care, performing basic medical procedures, and maintaining accurate documentation. The technician plays a vital role in monitoring patient conditions and responding to emergencies, contributing to the overall quality of care in a fast-paced healthcare environment.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalency.
  • One year prior experience as an EMT, military medic, PCA in an acute care or equivalent skill in long-term care setting, or completion of a medical assistant program.
  • Successful completion of two clinical semesters of an accredited nursing school.
  • AHA BLS certification required before the end of the orientation period.
  • 4 hours of Stroke related Continuing Education contact hours annually if assigned to specific units.

Nice To Haves

  • Certification as a Certified Nurse Assistant (CNA) preferred.
  • Successful completion of the Capital Health UAP Training program within 90 days of employment.

Responsibilities

  • Provides safety aspects of patient care, including assisting with patient restraints and following fall precautions.
  • Delivers personal care such as bathing, mouth care, and incontinence care under the direction of the RN.
  • Applies basic dressings, slings, and splints as directed by the RN.
  • Collects specimens like stool, urine, and sputum in a timely manner.
  • Empties and cleans ostomy and other device bags efficiently.
  • Records accurate intake and output per unit standards.
  • Provides nutrition support, including feeding and monitoring tube feedings.
  • Makes pertinent observations about patients and documents findings accurately in patient records.
  • Assists with post mortem care and CPR under supervision of a Registered Nurse or Physician.
  • Performs phlebotomy and stocks phlebotomy and IV trays for the unit.
  • Conducts glucometer testing and EKGs as required by the unit.
  • Takes accurate vital signs and pulse oximetry readings.
  • Stocks supplies as required and maintains a clean, organized environment.
  • Maintains patient and medication refrigerator logs and checks operational performance of Unit Code Cart/Carts.
