About The Position

The Critical Care Technician position at the University of Miami's UHealth Hospital Emergency Department involves maintaining and caring for medical equipment, assisting with patient care, and ensuring a clean and safe environment for patients and staff. This full-time role is essential for supporting the emergency department's operations and enhancing patient care through various technical and supportive tasks.

Requirements

• High School diploma or equivalent.
• Certification in relevant specialty or field (EMT or PMD).
• Minimum 3 years of relevant experience.

Responsibilities

• Maintain and care for all medical equipment, including cleaning intravenous pumps, poles, glucometers, and ultrasound machines.
• Ensure patient areas are adequately supplied and complete equipment logs.
• Report broken equipment and enter work orders for repair.
• Maintain the medication refrigerator, including cleanliness and temperature logs, reporting any deviations to the supervisor.
• Collect vital signs and communicate abnormalities to senior staff members.
• Accompany patients to exam rooms for procedures and prepare clinic rooms with necessary equipment and supplies.
• Assist with simple wound care and adhere to universal precautions as per policy.
• Assist in lifting, positioning, turning, and ambulating patients.
• Collect specimens (stool, urine, sputum) and transport them to the laboratory.
• Report any changes in patients' conditions or behaviors to the assigned nurse.
• Transport patients to and from various areas as needed.
• Adhere to University and unit-level policies and procedures.
